My daughter loves mucking about on the SUP its an older 11'6 Naish Nalu . Its probably a bit wide but really stable for her to get her confidence . Just wanted to know if anyone else has kids this age SUPing and what paddles are suitable , I guess also what would be a good board for me to get her for her own board and one more suited to her age group .
Hi Ant, my 9yo son uses a Naish Keiki adjustable and has done for a couple of years now, my 7yo has a Coreban Hyper fixed paddle. Both awesome and super durable. And the best thing for the kids is they are both quality light paddles with shafts that are the right size for kids hands. You can't go wrong with any branded paddle designed specifically for kids. They need to be light enough and well made to encourage participation. The adjustable has been our workhorse for all of their friends too.
My 8 and 9 yo daughters and wife are sharing a Naish Makani 8.0 Vario with the reduced diameter shaft from last year. It makes a good loaner for friends who want to try SUP as well.
My 6 yr old uses the hobie 3 piece paddle from my inflatable. Its carbon fibre but heavier than my paddle. I just put the blade and top handle together and it works for him perfect length. Can also be adjustable if you put all the bits together.
My Naish adjustable I brought 1-2 years ago is great for the kids, problem is that its now splitting around the blade, hasnt had a hard life either, minimal use compare to my other paddles.
