Sounds like the beaches south of wedge which I surf regularly. More often I am a k out nearby

Whales are about so sharks are too Whale numbers are up so no surprise gws numbers are up.

Know a few guys up in that area this weekend and the authorities are all over the place and won't let them in the water.

Be good if the authorities actually started doing something about it. FFS, How many more people have to die?

Was surfing in the area this morning, was very "sharky" weather saw the rescue helicopter fly over and thought I hope that's not what I think. Had some guys on a jet ski come out and let us know what happened. Out of respect we came in...our condolences to the family...very frustrating situation, got every one thinking twice about entering the water.. Will head out tomorrow and get a couple for the young bloke..RIP...

I thought another motorbike accident, when the choppers went over. Almost went there, but paddled out to the reefs same time as you. I have surfed the same spot by myself, numerous times. Puts it into perspective, when it happens in your area. RIP

"SHARK attacks will increase because of overfishing and government protection of the deadly predators, says a shark hunter.

Queensland shark hunter Vic Hislop says protection and fishing have created a recipe for disaster.

With yesterday's terrifying attacks combining with a surge of inshore shark sightings around Queensland and the recent fatal attack on a Perth snorkeller, Mr Hislop said everything he had been predicting for years was coming true.

He said it was clear sharks were regularly preying on humans as well as large ocean mammals as fish stocks diminished.

And he said there was no doubt the great white that took Brian Guest, 51, at Rockingham Beach, south of Perth, two weeks ago, was the same shark that had taken another snorkeller -- Geoffrey Brazier, 26 -- north of Perth in 2005.

"If people would just listen to me, there would be no one dying from shark attacks," he said.

"Everything I wrote in my book [Sharkman] 12 years ago is coming true 100 per cent of the time."

In 1997 Mr Hislop accused the Federal Government of criminal neglect over Australia's new shark-protection laws, saying the Government had been persuaded by vested interest groups to gloss over the country's real shark fatality statistics to protect the tourist industry.

That was just after then environment minister Robert Hill announced a plan making it illegal to capture or kill great whites or grey nurses in all Australian waters including the nation's huge fishing zone and waters above the continental shelf.

Until 1997, humans were killing up to 500 great whites a year. But Mr Hislop said marine mammals and people were the threatened ones as numbers of the feared predators continued to increase.

My condolences to the Family and friends of the fellow killed by the shark.

But, Vis Hislop is a complete nutbag and not the type to listen to and take advice from.

His idea is to kill every shark out there.

Forget about the fact that it is their environment and the planet needs them to keep ticking over.

If you have ever seen this lunatic interviewed you would understand that he is just trying to legitimise his business of "Big Game" shark hunting.

One of his arguments for killing sharks was "They kill all the beautiful creatures, like dolphins and turtles".

Vic is a dinasaur.

Yeah not sure exactly what we saw but considering how far away and how big it looked best to be cautious, like stimmo said just gotta get back in the water.
