Even though there is not even the slightest hint of swell on the east coast of Tas this easter we have still had the boards out.

There were a few schools of Australian Salmon just off the beach this morning, so while a few of us threw a few lures at them we had a couple of Naish's out herding them up. That worked well for a while but Justin had to take it to the next level. He got his fly rod out and jumped on the Naish to get amongst it.

It worked pretty well, and was only being towed around the bay slowly when he hooked one up! Next step is to be able to stand up and do it! :)

Thought you'd like that DJ.

Yeah the paddle isn't there because Justin hadn't paddled before and I thought that if things turned pear shaped Justin would be more worried about holding onto his $2500 fly rod/reel than my nice C4 paddle :)

well klektic, don't just name the SUP, give us details of the rod, reel, line (sinking, weight forward, floater etc) not to mention the type of fly used, leader weight etc!?

nice work BTW.

Hahaha, there really are no limits, love the milk crate.

He did manage to land a few without coming off. Though i think we should have used the board with the deck grip rather than the wax, as they did tend to slide off the deck once they were landed :)

For those who are actually serious fly throwers I'm told it was a:

Rod: Sage Z-Axis 790-4
Reel: Sage 2560
Line: SA Wf7 floating
Leader: Rio 6lb floating
Fly: Wet Whitebait Pattern

Inspired by this thread, today I decided to make this removable fishing setup - cost me all of $6.00 and took me about an hour to build The milk crate is clamped to the board using some nylon coated rubber and two sections of 100mm PVC - seems to hold firm. I attached the rod holders and paddle holder using cable ties. Can't wait to try it out.

There's a guy here in Auckland NZ goes out on a Naish 11'6 and fishes for snapper

Friend of mine knows him he's taken a windsurf base and bent it to fit his rod casts a line and off he paddles till he gets a bite. He always comes home with snapper or kawhy.

If I hook up something big like a gummy the plan will be just to ride with it - tire it out while concentrating on not falling in the drink with all my gear. When he's buggered I'll just paddle him to shore. I'm going to be using pretty light gear and will target Australian Salmon, Snapper or a pan sized Trevally would be very nice.

I'll send a pic of my first fish - that is if I manage to figure out how to get pics happening properly.

Strange - I can see it.

I'm using this google picaso software to upload them - the odd thing is that when I copy link location and paste it into a browser I'm asked if I want to save the file rather than just open it.

I'll just upload them to seabreeze now.
