Hi all
Does anybody know of people riding SUP's in Port Hedland, I am moving up that way(from the Goldy) in 4-6 weeks and it coincides with me buying my first SUP. Cant take my longboards(no waves) so standup is the only option........any thoughts or know of anyone would be great or if any ppl have ventured up that way would be great.
Thanks all

Hi,
I was up in Hedland this winter visiting my bro and wish I had taken up my SUP!!!! Its a really harsh part of the world but very beautiful. I love the Pilbra.
There are heaps of canals you can explore in the mangroves as well as awsome bays if you 4WD north of town. The 4WD can be pretty dicy as you have to cross tidal flats. There have been many a car lost to the mud and tide. Make sure you check the tide and weather charts as it can also get quite strong easterlies. It is really isolated up there so be prepared to see very few, if any people out on the water!
You could pretty much paddle up a canal for miles wait for the tide to turn and let it bring you back down to the ocean. The tides are radical. So many turtles, birds and fish! (Im sure sharks and the occasional croc too- at least they are well fed).
Plenty of mud crabs up those canals too. Yum yum. Just make sure you wear a @#$% load of strong insect replent and cover up or you will be one big walking, itching puss ball from the midgies. If you are prepared to explore and do some serious camping you will have a great time up there I did!!!!!
Happy SUPing.

Hey Rez
Thanks for the response, I went for a site visit in Port Hedland and had a look around and just saw all open beaches and creeks....it has so much potential. Just had a look at a Naish 11'6 and will be taking for a ride next weekend at Currumbin before I buy.
Was hoping to hear of other people with SUP's in Port Hedland, somebody has to be the first I guess! We have a 4wd and my wife, 3.5 year old son love the water...so I cant wait to take him for a paddle.......and explore.....pls any others who have been up that way give me a reply and would love to hear from you.
Thanks
Chris
