Yes Greenie true story and yes..very funny.
If you're ever over this way and pop into RPS (the board store) here in Melbourne and Warrick is the owner and we still have a laugh together about it.. Ask Warrick..He'll tell you all about it..
It was on live telly and we were watching the race being filmed by helicopter and then we see these two windsurfers screaming along way out in the ocean off Freo and although we were watching separately from our own houses we both thought..Jeez..That's Marcus and Rudy..our windsurfing mates..and we knew they were over there.
They (news) left the race for what seems like ages and filmed the chase with the water police chasing them and trying to catch them..they were on slalom boards and slalom sails and it was about 20-25 knots so they were really fanging along..The police boats had trouble keeping up.
They headed into the spectator boats where the filming stopped and we thought they had got caught (and maybe put in jail) but when they came home they said the chase went on for ages after that and they got away... Classic..
