I stuck the handle of my paddle into the paddle shaft using 5 minute araldyte.
Now I wish I had cut it shorter as Im finding it a bit too long.
Any ideas how I could get out of this stuck situation?
Someone mentioned heating up the area?
Would this melt the araldyte and not damage the carbon at the same time?
Help appreciated
Thanks

I was told by the guys at my local kyak shop that you can heat it up to get the handle out if you use five minute araldite.

Maybe try a hair dryer..It should not hurt the carbon fiber..imo..Let us know if it works.

Greenroom,

Be careful not to over heat the carbon, heat will damage it at high temps. Heat it for a while, but at a moderate heat, the araldite should go goey again, and you will be able to slide it out. Saying that, Carbon can handle some pretty high temperatures, but I think when it goes wrong, it goes very wrong.

cut off the section that the handle is attacted to before you heat it up
if you are reducing the length
then have a go without damaging the rest of the shaft
good luck

Ok Im gonna try that.
Ill cut it first then just heat the handle with hair dryer.
I dont have time tonight but will try tomorrow.
Will let you know how it went.
Thanks

Greenmoon,
If you cut the paddle at the lenght you want by carefully cutting around a little bit at a time and try and twist the handle off, if you are carefull enough, the handle will come out without scoring and then all you have to do is clean up the cut area. The key is to only score around the paddle a little bit at a time. I assume you are only shortening it by a little bit so the area you need to cut will have the handle shaft in it. Do a tradesman job and it will come out like brand new.

Used it this morning and super stoked I managed to get the handle out. It was definately too long.
Feels alot better but still could be abit shorter?
Im definately not gonna glue it in... yet
