Congratulations Dave!

I just watched some fotage of the semi final, and was blown away!
Running events in those sort of conditions is going to give the Waterman League some serious cred. There will be some spectacular photos / videos come out of this.

Inspirational!

No, a big narrow pointy nosed gun-like SUP - you know the ones - they developed them in shortboards over about 40 years or so of surfboard evolution

Actually it makes Dave's achievement even more astounding to be able to ride stuff like that on a stock standard production board meant for much mellower waves - says alot about his skill!

Goatman and friends,
It's actually reduced nose width that make a board work better in more power regardless if the nose is round or pointy. Yer sure most round noses are wider but its not always the case. The rounded ends long with the overall board width can make this deceptive.

I know Dave Muir's sterling performance out on a wave of serious consequence on a round nose board made it look easy, but as Goatie says a pointy nose run of the mill surfboard type nose is far better in hollow waves, one reason alone is less area up front to catch a rail when taking off deep and sideways.

If round nose boards where the go dont you think Slats and co would have riding them for years.

goaty, why have a pointy nose when you can cut it off and have a shorter board. So instead of having a 10foot pointy go 9foot round.

oh forgot, the rounded front and rears of the Starboards allow them to build in the required volume but also to keep rail thickness as thin and surfboardy as possible. The starby's have got the thinest rails of of any production board. And.. how about the lengths of their boards... 6'6" impossible, 7'4"pod, 7'11" etc. Try getting enough volume on a pointy board at 6'6" , the only way would be to increase the thickness to 5" but then the rails would look like Serena Williams thighs.....

By all accounts the way Goatie rips on his "pointy" nose subs I dont think he would even dream of riding a mal like nose sub What would be the point

But Brooko, what do we make of the super short Starbys. Are they fundementaly wrong in their designs or are they onto something. Maybe we need to recalibrate our brains as to what a performance SUP looks like. Maybe the outline of a performance shortboard does not translate to SUP, after all performance bodyboards don't look like short boards. Then again, maybe the thought of Serenas Williams thighs have driven my little monkey brain into overload. Geez I love tennis.
