Backhand is definitely harder but what changed things for me was having the paddle on the other side most of the time.

So try having the paddle on your right/heel side, when you bottom turn you can lean on the paddle to put more pressure
on your heel rail, and then when you turn off the top you twist your body the way you are turning and dig the paddle in
on the left side of the board and pivot off that. If you watch some videos you will see others doing it, usually.

I would still say I surf better on my forehand but this method has definitely help my backhand surfing. The same method
will do wonders for your forehand cutbacks as well!

ok, say on a bottom turn, let the gravity draw you down over the board and sort of relaxed facing the beach sort of. so you set the rail from this position, probably loaded more on the front foot.
as you extend, rotate towards the turn. the load will move through more to the back foot. this should give the board release as you extend and then you can steer the board where you want it to be. time to start thinking about the next turn, so you get lower and compress and set the opposite rail. as you turn off the top, you should be on the opposite rail carving back down and so forth.

to many people try to turn off the top in a extended position and most likely that is whats happening to you on your backhand. it just always seems harder to get that action going backhand on a sup.

i would say watch a dogman vid but people will start thinking i'm in love.

check out that guy on the white board in the getup dvd post.he has it pretty much wired

cheers

ps have a look at the 'getting into bottom turnsfor the first time post' too. its a couple of pages back

When you swap sides with your paddle, swap your hands as well

Turn your leading shoulder into the wave face.Twist at the waist so your upper body is turning towards your turn direction. This action naturally puts the twist down thru your legs to the board.Get your chest facing where you want to go not your shoulder.
Drop your inside shoulder lower than the outside shoulder. It feels awkward to begin with but it becomes natural and you will not even realize your doing it after a while.
Bend at the knees to lower your centre of gravity and weight on your heels.Especially your back foot.

Like Laceys Lane said, the guy on the white board in the Get Up clip has it pretty wired.
He uses the paddle technique I was talking about. It works well to get your chest and
shoulders to initiate your turns.
