Hi All

Just want warn people of a supplier in Queensland that sold me a board....Told me that they had their own personal doing their boars with there own Warehouse. The board arrive with a big Made In China Decal. The board was poorly made with parts missing.

When the board arrived I rang them immediately to tell them I had parts missing and the quality of the board was shocking. The under part of the board had depression running along the board and was poorly finished. They told me to fill in a warranty claim form....When I told them that the fins are missing and the quality was so bad, he hang up on me...

Look i am only new to this sport, but no one needs to be treated like this...I should have known better!!!

Its been 4 days now and the best they will do is to have the board returned at my expense pending their inspection. I am sure that the brand is a good brand, but it is the supplier!!!!

Since this has happen another supplier told me that all SUP Boards are made in China or Thailand...Not that I have a problem with that. Just why was the supplier full of lies ....

Not sure if you are allowed to mention Brand or supplier, but I am sure you guys will let me know.

All I can say is support you local surf shop. Look at it , feel it and demo it and then you buy it. What do expect on line. The poor man always pays the most and buys a cheap sh!t board on line then goes and buys another board from your local surf store. You would have to be nuts to buy a board you have never seen or tried without at least trying find some reviews on it. All the major reputable board brands have entry level boards in their range. Same goes for the paddles. Yes most major brands are made in Asia but those factories produce top quality boards and some absolute sh!t. Send it back get your refund and go to the board review section on this site and buy a good one.

Buying local may not be sufficient. A crook is a crook, wherever he lives, thousand miles away or next door.

The important thing is to look for past track records (how they handled complaints), and the reputation at stakes if they mistreat a customer: a no-name brand can just change their brand name and create a new one, not so for brands that have painstakingly built a reputation for years. Some "entrepreneurs" seem to just build a new brand for each new container...

Note that not finding any complaint is suspicious. **** always happen, especially in boardbuilding which is still quite a manual process, you must look for testimonies on how the brand solved the issue.

Name and shame buddy, help others not to make the same mistake. Yes I agree with buying from a local shop, but we all make mistakes don't beat yourself up about it.

if your transaction is with an Australian business they are bound by the Australian consumer law.
Best to check your rights as a consumer, www.consumerlaw.gov.au/
In most cases merely mentioning Australian consumer law to a shonky business will force them to straighten up their act.

Thanks for posting, and thanks for not naming. As others have said, the best way to deal with this is through appropriate channels - just causes fights between folks here otherwise... from the forum policy:

www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Help/ForumRules.aspx#h40

Complaints about a business/associations

When this occurs, the poster is often quite fired up and emotional. Often the customer is now out to cause as much damage as possible to the business with the mission that they are "fully justified" (their words) and "simply stating facts" (their words) about the business/association.

This may be the case .. or not. There are many sides to any story. The point is that the Seabreeze forums are not the appropriate place to resolve the issue. Go to the appropriate legal/government authority and do it there.

Choose not to, and end up in hot water. As soon as you flame a business, you'll usually get supporters of the business come out in defence and question your behaviour and motives. People interested in the discussion will seek more information from you. It soon descends into an argument containing many and varied versions of the truth and everybody goes home unhappy.

It has never ended well for anybody.

The business is damaged, the poster now has a stigma in the forum community (and now can't deal with many shops because the shops know what will happen if they cross this customer - there business will get dragged through the mud.)

And of course, there's also the situation when the poster does not really have a complaint, but is simply a competitor or naive associate of a business who thinks the way to get more business is to degrade the competition.

A special note: This applies (and has been applied) to any business, not just businesses that sponsor the site.
