The battle of Barwon Heads is the closest we have to a genuine BOP race in Vicco at the moment with the in and out through the Barwon Estuary and the very tricky section between the 2 bridges.

More Details below.

Don't forget you can bring the kids and have a splash at Ocean Grove Main Beach and some brunch or late afternoon lunch at the many bars and or cafes or a BBQ at the rotunda area in the afternoon.

Speaking of closest thing to a genuine BOP race, there's talk of finding a small and unpopulated wave very close by after the race and presentations, and doing a BOP training session in preparation for state titles in 3 weeks. Might be an idea to bring a 14' board for the river mouth race and a 12'6" board for the BOP session.

Looking at the Outlaws website and course map, the sups will stay within the river only. If that could be changed so we can go farther out, at least through some waves, it will add some fun to the race.

Looking forward to seeing everyone down there and having a fun bop session afterwards.

hey PT,

When are your state titals? Can some SA Crew come over and splash around with you guys for a bit of training? We wouldn't want placings, just some training.

Let me know

Yes your right Chris re course details, maybe there could be two sections to the event, light course stays as planned and the pro course that gets out amongst the surf,I am sure Jarad would listen and change as required

Hey WWS, the Vicco State Titles are on March 2nd and 3rd. Surfing Victoria has opened entries to interstaters in the racing divisions but the surfers must be Victorian residents.

Regarding this Sunday, there is already a light course and a pro course. The pro course is the one the top level skis and OCs do and that goes way out beyond the heads. The lite course (for SUP, prone and B-grade skis and OCs) goes more or less to level with the heads and if conditions are anything like last year, there is a nice little breaking wave right there to catch back in. We do have to respect the water safety plans in place - Jarad spoke with me about this last week and in his opinion, the resources he has available will be compromised if we did the full ocean course. He also pointed out that this is the FLAT water championship. It's also worth noting that the race commences right on low tide so that will have a big impact on the course due to currents, exposed sandbars and rocks. At any rate, Jarad will determine on the day where the most appropriate and safest turning point will be for the SUP course. I'm sure it will be challenging regardless of how far out we are able to venture.

In light of recent comments and wanting to be inclusive of all interests, we've taken your comments to the organisers, Outlaw Paddling.

As a result they are happy for SUP competitors to paddle the elite course out into the ocean, should they wish.

The FLAT WATER SERIES course however, to be fair to everyone who has entered and trained for a FLAT WATER series, will be the river course to the mouth as indicated.

Those who wish to test their mettle may paddle the elite ocean course distance but will not be able to score points towards the FLAT WATER SERIES.

Let's get the race done, then hit the open beach for some bop training!

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. Or afternoon in this instance.
