hey guys.

i live about 10 minutes walk from st kilda beach and the other day i spotted a guy cruising along on his sup board a good distance from the shore, while everyone else was crammed into the beach. so i want in on that.

i'm 74kg 6ft. i will probably use the board for mostly flat water. i want something i can just cruise along the bay on.

price- $1500 limit with paddle

new or used

So i'm hoping some people can suggest some boards that would suit me. links to shops or reviews even better!

cheers

Hi bluds.. I don't know who that guy could have been..

I'm happy to catch up with you one day and arrange some boards for you to demo.

I'll send you a PM and I'll see you on the water soon.

St Kilda is a great spot for SUP'ing.

If you want a new board that sort of money will easily get you into a brand new NSP10.6 or 11.0. They are great boards - tough as nails - stable -and not too heavy to lug about. Best value for money new board around IMO. However if you are looking second hand you will get a really nice board and paddle for the money as well. If its mainly for bay cruising then you really need to be looking at 11 to 11 1/2 foot for comfort and fun factor. Get something allround though because a pure flatwater board will severely limit your options if you ever want to start catching a few little waves.
Good luck.

Thanks for that i'll definitely look into an alrounder.

ideally i was looking for a board/paddle deal or package. but i guess thats not too important if i can source both of them for under 1500

ill keep doing my research. more info is appreciated!

Bluds, see you on a down winder soon !! DJ has two awesome choices for distance boards, for getting a good distance offshore. The longer option is sublime !! Just give your budget a little nudge North of that !

Hi Bluds,

Welcome to SUPing.

I myself am a newbie to the sport but with the help of the local legends am now up and paddling so to speak.

I am trying to paddle at St Kilda as much as I can and have pulled off a couple of sunrise sessions of late just before day light saving arrived, which is a great way to start the day.
If you need a paddle partner down there before work just send me a mail when you get going as i will be trying to keep the early paddles going.

hey thanks mick.

im a student so i have pretty weird times going atm. but if I do find myself on struggle street I definitely know who to call.

on a completely different subject. does anyone use a push-bike to transport their board? im just thinking about getting a trailer of some sort. either just for pulling by hand or on the side of the bike.....opinions?

Bluds - many boards around today. Hau'oli and Southern Cross boards have many choices available - great range, IXPS core, 6oz glass, finish coat...reckon the Hau'oli 11'2" x 32" x 4.1/2" board gets you still water action, but with a rocker template and rail hardness enough to get some pivot off the back foot. And at $1200 - board, fins, deck grip, carbon paddle...excellent value. Happy to help out. Cheers
