Board recommendations for lightweight (55-60KG)

My girlfriend is looking for her first board, but we are bit torn on which way to go. I am (85-90KG) and currently have a 2010 10.5 drive. We are now looking for board for her (55-60KG). She will use the board mostly for flat water cruising in ocean bays. She likes the glide of the 10.5 drive but can find a bit wide at times. She feels like she has to lean a little too far over the edge to put the paddle in when cruising around the bay which is what she primarily does. We are looking at the following boards:

10.3 x 28.5 Gun from 2009
2009.star-board-sup.com/products/bd_thegun.php

9.8 x 29 Pro from 2010

9.8 x 30 Element from 2010

8.5 x 30 Pocket from 2010

We are leaning towards the element at this stage, but would love feedback from the lightweights. Are narrow performance oriented boards be a pig for lightweights to paddle because of increased rocker and vee?

Your really sold on Starboard hey....

I once worked for a Starboard retailer.
Awesome huge range of boards.
Id say from your list the 9"8 pro would be the best and you could use it yourself in the waves.

Naish Mana and Fanatic Allwave 9'2 is a safe option too.

good luck

Hi amoka,

I am about the same weight as your gf and probably the same skill level. Ive had the Mana 9'5" for about 6 months and i love it. Its fun to cruise around on the flat and in little waves. Its also easy for a short person to carry
Im super happy with it. It also fits (just) inside my holden cruz from boot to footwell of front passenger seats so i can leave it in the car all day at work and go out afterwards, no need to leave it on the racks

Definately the 9'8 x 29.
If the Drive is too wide for her then there would be no reason to get another board 30" wide.
From your list the 9'8 x 29 would suit you both. Its volume is about 140L. Great for her in flat water and even better for you in the waves

My GF is of similar weight and very strong..........she finds the 9'5" Mana a pain in the asse from a weight and width perspective when handling it and carrying up and down from carpark to beach. From a paddling perspective she would also prefer something skinner as well. She loves her new fanatic 12'6 carbon - finds it an absolute breeze to handle.
