Hi Guys,

I purchased a 2012 Fanatic 9'2" Prowave recently that I've since found out has been taking on water via a couple of small cracks.

I suspect this board has been taking on water for quite some time so wanted to compare the weight of my board to the "official" weight. However, after doing some research, it appears that most of the board manufacturers don't actually publish the weight of their boards.

Soooooo, I was wondering if a few of you good people who have a 9'2" 2012 Prowave would mind sticking your board on the bathroom scales and seeing what it weighs? I'm hoping that by averaging a few weights, I'll be able to see if mine differs significantly. Alternatively, if someone does know what the official weight is supposed to be, it would be great hearing from you!

Thanks in advance for any help with this guys - much appreciated.

Hi Cowii,

There is no "official weight". The first boards off the production tend to be slightly heavier than the ones at the end of the run as the factory workers gets more efficient and better at production. They can use less resin and fillers.

I think you'll find that's why no manufacturer posts weights. Can you imagine the hassle as guys who bought first run boards weigh it and check it against the manufacturers lighter "official weight", there would be fear of water ingress and stress about why my board is heavier or lighter than others.

I'd think there could be as much as half a kilo either way from average weight.

Thanks heaps for the info Scarbs - much appreciated. My board actually weighs 11.3kg's with fins. For the hell of it, I might just try and taking the fins out and compare the weights.

I suppose what I'm trying to do is find out whether my board contains water without going to the extreme of drilling holes in it etc. I've taken the bung out and everything is pretty dry at that point but the cracks were in front and back of the board I so can't tell if there's water in the foam further in from these points. I let the board dry out for a few days before repairing the cracks but now wonder whether I should have let it dry out longer. Oh life.... Probably just being paranoid.

Anyway, thanks again for the info - much appreciated!
