Well today's Bridge the Bank was a great success with 28 teams and three "Desperate and Dateless" paddlers. It was great to see everyone turning up early allowing us to get the event underway on time. There was a bit of nervous tension among the ladies as they lined up at the start with so many racing for the first time. The women started from the beach and rounded a mark 50m out, before heading to Pt Walter. Some paddlers had a few "adventures" when the group was hit by a brief westerly wind change, thanks to the guys paddling who saw them back on track again. Belinda Stowell-Brett had a large break over the group at the change over point with Nicki Jones having Anne Lockwood breathing down her neck. Nick Shiers was the first male away and ran off that quick he seemed to be running across the top of the water with his board still under his arm for the first 100m. Bystanders reported him chanting "no pressure" under his breathe as he powered off towards the Narrows. The "Desperate and Dateless" paddlers also started at this point. The male paddlers had a perfect downwind run in 15-18 knots breezes till they hit Matilda Bay where the wind dropped out (I guess that's why it would be a good spot for a demo day ,hey Hilly

) A few of them took different lines and ended up having to run their boards across shallow banks. Not Stimmo though who seemed intent on paddling off for a beer at The Raffles. The main group of paddlers caught up with the still chanting Nick Shiers at Matilda Bay with the lead changing through 4 different paddlers over the last 2 km to the finish.
The presentations were held at Salt on the Beach where the paddlers were served up with an amazing spread of pizzas, pork ribs and roasted sweet potato chips to name a few dishes.
On the winners list was Monica De Araujo (in her first race) and Roger Goodwin who took out line honours and first place on handicap. Second on handicap was Nicki Jones and Leo Beyers with Ida Danielsson and Drew Malcolm taking out third place.
The "Desperate and Dateless" division was won by Jack Howe.
The great prizes and random draw packs were supplied by WAsurf and Yob Australia, a huge thank you goes out to them. Don't forget to support the people who support you.
A big thank you also to the volunteers Anna, Jade and Ian Lane, Richard Lockwood and Paul Jones. Without their help the event would not of been possible.
Looking forward to doing it all again next year..
