They can if their name is Kristi Page.

I paddled in the same team with Kristi in the Mad Paddle last week and I was very impressed that Kristi was able to paddle the whole 30 kilometers solo..

What an awesome effort.

DJ

Here's Kristi before the start with Lucy.

With PT and just about to hit the water.

Off and paddling with the music on.

Setting her own pace and looking good.

Getting ready for our first rest stop.

First major drama.. Kristi's hair tie breaks..

New hair tie thanks the a female caost guard officer.. Drama fixed..

Off and cruising and about half way there.. Waa-hoo!

I'm sure all the other solo paddlers will agree that 30 klms is one hell of a long way to paddle.

Oooh.. it feels nice to sit down for another rest stop.

Our support boat was always there if we needed anything.

Another rest stop and a short break to rest the feet.

Great job Kristi.. Chalk one up for the girls.. .. It was great to share that 30 klm paddle with you.. Hope to see you back next year.

Hi DJ,

Firstly, congratulations to Kristi on completing the paddle, great effort and a great role model for young girls interested in the sport.

The thing I would mention is that I believe anyone, regardless of gender or age (within reason) is capable of a 30km paddle in the kind of conditions you had, provided they paddle with correct technique.

Poor technique contributes to premature muscle fatigue in the triceps and shoulders which will bring anyone undone in an endurance event.

I do a lot of paddling and frequently see people paddling along (some with years of experience) with very poor technique. 15 minutes of one on one coaching and they can paddle faster, with less effort and consequently less fatigue.

I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone who completed the paddle, just don't want people interested in the sport reading this thinking they aren't capable of doing it.

If you're not sure if you are paddling correctly, take note if you are getting sore shoulders, back or triceps instead of abs. You may need a slight tweak to your technique from someone who knows what they are doing. It's very easy to correct.

Congrats again to Kristy and everyone else who completed the event, looked like fun.

Cheers,

DM

Over here, if she sailed around the world non- stop solo, her name would be Jessica Watson. Interestingly, it also looks like Kristi's parents own a stink boat?

What's with stink boat! ?

For clarification;

Kristi's parents don't even own a boat at the moment. Previous boat was commercial not recreational. The support boats for the paddle were all "donated". Kristi's team support boat was actually the Yellow Coast Guard Vessel...

A stink boat is the sort of boat that a rag boat isn't, that should clear things up......

OK I think I know now. So if a stink boat is not like a rag boat it must be like a holding down boat. Is that right?

We hit the water on daylight (about 7am) and had a short 5 min rest about every hour (8, 9, 10, 11) and arrived at Sandy Marina at midday.

After taking my last picture of the trip I dropped my camera into the water just off the end of the pier as I paddled into the marina.

Once on the beach I walked around tried to dive for it.. It was pretty deep (about 15') and after about 10 try's I gave up.. It was soft and mushy on the bottom with no real visibility.. and it also made my ears hurt.. I was pretty pissed off.

I went back the next morning with fins and swimming goggles and tried for about an hour without any luck.. and was very pissed off.

I went back at 7pm (low tide) and my friend Andrew came to help.. He got it on his third dive.. Was-Hoo!

It is the yachtie term for power boats. I thought the one in thr background might have been her parents.

Someone should give Kristi a copy of Jessica's book. It inspiring.

According to the coast guard GPS the average speed over ground for the 2nd Solo paddle group whole trip was 6.25kph and the total time was 4.40min.

They wernt smokin it but they wernt out for a Sunday Paddle either!

I guess the point DJ was making is that when the paddle came up Kristi saw it as goal to do 40Km across the bay and trained to make the distance. She was the only Junior who signed up for the solo paddle and did it on a 12'6.

Kristi hasnt really done much distance flat water paddling she prefers doing down winders with Simondo and Justin in 35 - 45kn+ downwind conditions.

Here is some footage we shot or tried to shoot earlier this year of her down winding the 12'6 Fanatic, your welcome to join her on a run like this anytime you like!

Like you say anyone can do it right!

Phill

Well done kristi and guys too. Awesome effort for a young 16yr old.
It's young girls like yourself and young hayley in Hawaii in 5 years time you will all be
Kicking our butts.
Plently of young 14 - 18 yr old clubbie girls up here now also training in sup and they
Love it.
Young hayley was only 16yr or 17yrs old last year when she won Molokai crossing on a 14ft class fixed fin class!! Amazing!
All you young girls have so long ahead of you. I wish I started when I was that young lol.

Congrats
Xx Angie
