Totally agree Sparx and Casso, give em to the guys that are next inline from the respective state titles. There is enough talent anyways we don't need longboarders trying ride SUPs to fill the numbers - and I don't include Jackson in that as he is a legitimate ripping SUP rider obviously.

After having a bit more of a think about it i dont see to much of a prob picking some wildcards out of some other results or if some one has done something special, not everyone could get to the state titles as i know i was stuck in the shop but would have liked to go and i'm guessing there are other people who might have been in the same boat. If they are going to give 2nd chances then they should do a bit of both and open it up to everyone. I'm sure either way some one from QLD will win anyway as i have seen most of the so called talent from the other states and there is nothing of concern for the QLD boys!!!.

Yeah I thought JC winning the 2009 SUP title was funny (and equal parts lame) as well

i'm sure whoever wins, be he/her a fully sic sup per or a switch footing longboard stepper or a lid rider will treat the title of aus. national sup champion with respect and dignity and will be a credit to the sport in the eyes of all australians nation wide.

Losing sight of the big picture here folks.
Why are we different to every other division at the Nationals. Try throwing some wild cards in there and see what happens. There is a reason why we have qualifying rounds, its not just indicative of talent, its indicative of committment. Who gets to say who has done something 'special' enough to short circuit the qualifying process? Or is that already happening? If SA or Tassie or WA cant come up with a full contingent then the spare slots should go back to the other States on a proportional basis. Maybe two more each from NSW and Queensland and another from Vicco, all having had a crack at the qualifiers.
My two cents worth anyway, but I suspect the cogs are turning. How about we hear from the Surfing Aus phantom again for some clarification.
Cheers

'only the longboarders who are already there should contest the sup division. at least some classy surfing would be seen by the spectators and gives the judges something they can work with'.

this was what 62mac said on the longboard forum i think

haha Lacey you sh-t one of our mates has just done his back in so some of us suggested buying a sup,so THERE we don't hate sup's

How about bye passing the state selection for the nationals and make it an all in.Only the ones who think they can give it a shake up will enter.
Oh and for the record this forum only represents a VERY small part of the people who participate in this sport and Jackson Close is a longboarder come sup'er and dam good at both.

OK...I'm the culprit who put up the original post and as precisely highlighted...it's a can of worms which is why I pulled it down...that said, having read through all the responses...there's great feedback and I'll throw it around our offices and try and get a good outcome for all....I hear you loud and clear on the next in line thing and I'm sure that will dominate the criteria....and I also appreciate throwing a Jacko type into the equation...there'll hopefully be a good compromise.....I'm all for trying the right thing and 100% into the SUP movement....there was never any intention to allocate to a longboard rider to make up a sup position.... I've spoken to the guy who will have a lot of input to how it runs...and from what he's told me he's doing all the right things to pull a great event....allocating I think a 4 day window to get as good a quality an event he can within that window...he's keen to get a SUP as well so if you have a good board to move at he end of the event show it to Beau!
Thanks for the feedback and hopefully the outcome will be positive for all...although it's hard to please everyone as I'm sure you'd understand --- ...SR

Sparks,
Last couple of years its been 1 foot or so I would get bent out of shape about it.
I agree with what you saying but.

Love the elite attitude from the queenslanders.....
Like anyone cares about the heros of the sport......

We had the laughable situation in our state titles where someone complained because a vicco was going to enter. Ha sacred to loose I rekon.....
It was 1 to 2 foot at best so it was like trying to get a fat in a gay bar....
I wish you could have a SA spot because as far as I know only one person is going.
Good luck

Howdy Scotty
Already in, have been for a while, same way as Dan and Casso. Once the process starts its common sense to continue down that road without going the wildcard U turn route. As for the fat in the gay bar, I near choked on my bratwurst!

Hey Guys the womens draw is even more of an issue!

In Vicco for example this year we have only been allocated 1 female entry to the Aussies which rightly went to Emma.

Max from surfing Vic has applied to Surfing Australia for a second position for Vic and we will find out on Thursday

Kristi has surfed in almost all of the East Coast Womens events won 1 and finshed in the top 4 in all but 1 and may still miss out.

If Surfing Australia Wild Card to fill the womens spots I wont be a happy camper!

Didn't Lummers already get the wildcard entry into the aussies last year? He was injured for the states and still got a place in the Aussies. Doesn't that mean the wild card thing has already happened? I tried getting a late entry into the Vicco titles last year only to be denied, it was then opened upto longboarders to fight it out for a spot to fill the draw, what a crock

Hey Cam Lummers didnt get a Wild Card entry he was saved a position in the Vic team as he could not compete in the Vic Titles due to an injury sustained in a SUP competition at Noosa. He was already 3/4 the way through rehab and they knew he would be able to compete.

What about a couple of extra spots to qld? You talk of surfing aus. in surfing in juniors you can represent australia without competing at state level/regional level , never fair, - whichever sponsor donates the money to the training camp at casuarina. If you couldnt make the trials , a letter should have been sent to state body prior. They should have had the 0/40s at aus ,titles .

Why not an over 50's?? Why should you whipper snappers have all the fun? If nothing else it would be good for a laugh at someone like me. Though as I keep on saying there is a guy in Victoria called Dean Snow that would have most of QLD guys eating your words and he is 56. Fortunately for you guys he is a Waterman and has nothing to prove to anyone.[}:)]
