The Coast of Origin just completed with the Short Board Tag Team. This has been a fantastic competition with SUP, Longboard and Short Board across all divisions. The organisation from Surfing Qld and and the way the clubs have got involved has been fantastic. SQ has some great plans for some stand alone SUP events in 2012 on both the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

I spent a number of hours on the commentary and was also impressed with the effort of judging. They were very professional in ensuring they were judging SUP correctly.

Well done to all those who put the effort in and got involved. From the Sunshine Coast end it has been great to see how the appreciation of SUP has grown through this with all the clubs up here. They are interested in having SUP at some of their main comps and not as just a add on or thrown in but a scheduled event.

The other benefit I have found is how the short board clubs are really appreciating the ability of the SUP Surfer. This will have a flow on effect in the local breaks and assist with stopping the pathetic SUP bash by some when not justified.

Well the results were close. Very close. Sunshine Coast SUP won the SUP Comp. I not sure which was champion Short Board Long Club!! Overall the Sunshine Coast region won the whole (SUP, Longboard, Short Board) competition by 1 point. Great effort by all competitors. Look forward to 2012 as I believe this is the start of a format that will grow and Grow.

I will organise to have the trophy on display.
Well done all.
See you next year SUPSA. Now we must train harder so you don't kick our backsides at the Ocean Addicts BOP in November 20.

SUNSHINE Coast surfers can boast bragging rights over their Gold Coast rivals after claiming a historic victory in the inaugural Coast of Origin Interclub Series at Duranbah Beach.

In a tense contest between the regions' best short boarders, long boarders and stand-up paddle boarders, the visitors won overall honours by a solitary point (269 points to 268).

"It was neck-and-neck the entire weekend," Sunshine Coast Club Development Officer Dave Lammin said yesterday.

"To get that result ... because we were definitely seen by many as the underdogs coming into that state final."

"We didn't think we'd get a show. Obviously the Gold Coast is very strong with Snapper Rocks and Kirra Beach and the (Currumbin) Alley so we were pretty ecstatic.

"We had such a good group of surfers that travelled to the Gold Coast and they are very rapt."

After two days of competition in a variety of divisions, the Sunshine Coast held a narrow one-point lead heading into yesterday's final event; the All-Star Tag Team short board.

And while Snapper Rocks claimed victory in the testing ?-metre conditions, Wind 'N' Sea and Northshore snared second and third place to ensure the northerners retained their one-point lead.

Among the standouts for the Sunshine Coast was youngster Quinn Bruce, of Noosa.

"He received the highest wave score for the entire event and surfed exceptionally well. Our junior surfers went very well. What also gave us a bit of an advantage is that our stand-up paddle boarders did very well on Saturday," Lammin said.

More than 20 Queensland clubs from Noosa to Coolangatta converged for the meet.
