The day started out with drizzle and a good NE. I got there early to get a shady parking spot so I could leave my boards locked in the car. The sun eventually appeared as I was sipping a coldie with my wife at home about an hour ago.

Simon from newcastle was the first to appear just after breakky. At least someone other than me turned up earlyish. Simon has a hollow 14ft Vortice XP and very light it is.

Sue (Wahini) and her partner were the next to show up just before lunch time. Sue also has a 14ft Vortice XP.

Dale Chapman was the next to appear with his DC16 not long after Sue.

Earlier that day Simon and my self organised a 7k down winder with the event organisers for the SUP crew with a start time of 2pm, we only needed 5 boards.
The conditions with the wind and swell were great. The wind was max at 19kts and from the right direction for a straight down hill run, we even had some cloud cover to keep the sunburn at bay.

Woogee turned up about 4pm, just before the days presentations.

Dale, Simon and myself did go for a short paddle out to the harbour entrance (about 1k) to try and catch a few runners that were coming thru the harbour mouth. I think Simon got a couple, Dale reckons he got 4 in a row, he did end up a long way inside, and me I got none. It was my first time on a 14ft race board.

I borrowed Sue's Vortice, they are different from my wave boards. I jumped on just out side the 1ft shorey and wobbled left, right, left, remember what Casso said, just relax and don't jump off. The board centred and I paddled away.

The next event on the outrigger calendar is 7 March 2009. We are planning a king of the harbour event so that all the short boards can participate and a couple of 5k and 7k down winders for the Offshore crew, with a small surf comp as well.
This will take place within and close by the harbour, whatever the wind and swell direction is, more on this later as we finalise the format, ideas are welcome.

Tommorrow is the 25k Iron man down winder with a strong southerly forcast, sunny skies and some pics.

This morning is sunny and clear. The wind at home which is 30k north of Coffs is ene, well that is what my tell tale flag is indicating.

The wind in Coffs according to the BOM was nnw at max14kt but changed to sw at 8.30 am. I think that because Coffs is situated on the transitional zone of southern weather and northern weather that today will be light winds. The isobars have really opened up in our zone and this means light wind.

The winds north of us are nnw and the winds south of us are w.

Sw means that you have to paddle on the right side the whole way.

A very good day for photos, post some up tonight.
