Noticing some of these comments from our brothers from warmer climes.

There's nothing nicer than being out in ultra-cold conditions but being warm comfortable and riding beautiful, crips waves.

I have a Rip Curl Fireskin which is just your upper-range sealed seam 4/3 suit and it is always toasty.

Get back to the car and pour hot water down the suit, dry off and get dressed in warm clothes then off to a cafe for coffee and a slab of cake (or a thermos full of hot stuff). Sometimes there will be a fire on the beach. Home for dinner and a glass of red or three in front of the open fire. Massage from the missus.

On Saturday I was standing waiting for sets and riding clean, uncrowded 2-3 footers and gentle showers were coming through with a rainbow for each one. I'm only wearing the spring steamer at the moment but with the SUP everything is nice and warm.

I only surf in winter because the wind direction is better and the surf is less crowded (and there's plenty of wind for kiteboarding all through summer and spring). I used to ski a lot but I can surf all winter with no lift queues and tickets, and a much shorter drive and fuel bill.
