I wonder how many other boards will come out as competitors to the new 12' Naish Glide.

I know there's the Jimmy Lewis 12'6" Distance.

Today I see that Joe Bark has a new 12'6" that looks very nice..Here's some pics.. I think it's carbon fiber.

It sorta looks like a 14' board with 18" chopped off the nose and tail to bring it down to the 12'6" limit..

btw..I wonder if Stuey will make a 12'6" Pene to race in this class?

Nice looking board...would still rather go the 14ft or 16ft glass penetrator if they are going to make them....are there any of these 12ftish size boards being made with displacment hulls or are they all more planning type??

notice the vent in the deck? Do most of the big boards have a vent?.

Isn't the vent in because they are chambered to realease pressure when they heat up...similar to hollow wooden boards?

Yes.. ..notice Olivers new Stonker even has one.

I think it depends on the type of foam that they use.

DJ and others...what are the classes these days. Have they been finalised yet overseas? I know it's been a topic of discussion for quite awhile now.

The Bark looks very nice. I'm not so sure about the handle jutting out though.

This class thing is getting me down , i want to get a racing board but dont want to spend that kind of coin and then find out i have the wrong size board. And like a lot of people im guessing , who want to race , the unlimited class is not very appealing.

I agree totally Teatrea... it's all very confusing at the moment. Like the 14'8" Starboard Point. A great looking board but as someone mentioned it's 8" too long and it up against the big boards in the Unlimited Class. Not sure why they made it that little bit too long ??

Wish it was clear cut like 12' & Under....14' & under...and Unlimited. Or something similar but definate. Guess it will happen soon.

I am with you guys, thats why I rekon 14 is the go. I dont get to race in SA but if I did, 14 allows a good restriction. 12 is too slow and over 14 is for the elite in my mind.

Seems like the discussions I've seen has mostly leaned to 12-6, 14, and unlimited. Lets hope the race organizers are all talking to each other. I'll be sticking to my starboard 12-6 until I can afford a big boy.

Like "The Axe" just said, from what I've been reading it virtually seems definite that the race classes are set to be 12'6" and under, !4' and under and unlimited. Steering systems are allowed in the unlimited class and others but if racing in the 12'6" and 14' classes the rudder must be able to be locked in the central position prior to the race.

Yes I do have a 12'6" Penetrator under way but it won't be completed for about 3 weeks and it's a little baby displacement hull to go with it's 14', 16' and 18'8" big brothers.........will post pics after the birth!

Now that's the ticket. Just what us cash-strapped, novice, distance paddlers are after. Can't wait to see it.

Let's hope the 12'6" class sticks here in AUS like to seems to have in USA and HAW.

Yeah, that's what ends up happening Tux, even though I'm quite a novice paddler I'm making myself an 18'8", all you gotta do is see one, let alone ride it and you want that whole hog!!!!!!!

Seems to be furious agreement about the need for class clarification.
I think that human nature point me to want the fastest possible craft, however after the battle I had getting my 11'6 across the rail line after a recent downwinder I'm not so sure. I thought I was going to sacfice my pride and joy to the 11.15 Sandringham train. I bairly managed to get the board to the ground before it took off in a gust.
I would love to have a 12'6 and a big boy. I am not sure of the merit in a 14, seems a little pointless to me.
Keen to see Stueys 12'6 penetrator

12,6 is good stock class but why make the next class 14 its only just over a foot bigger than stock seems stupid to me.

My thoughts are 12'6 and 16 or 17 foot class with the unlimited boards to go in the 16 foot class but they just can't clam first place. 16 foot is where the board really start to come alive alive and pick up runners in the ocean which is heaps more fun than paddling the whole way and watching the runners passing you by like on a 12 or 14 foot board. There is a big difference between flat water racing and ocean racing, 14 might be great for the flat but in the waves i want to catch runners.

A 16 foot board cost $3300 brand new and just over $2000 second hand, That's not that much more than a good new SUP.
2 classes nice and simple just because the USA bring in a 14 foot class for there conditions doesn't mean that it will suit what is happening here

I know i have got a new board getting made and its not 14 foot, i want speed!!!

Just MO anyways

Why don't we or us as Aussies just decide for ourselves and put this part behind us so we can get more people in to the sport. How many of us are going to travel to compete anyway i know its hard enough to get a sup across AUS let alone overseas

YAYA, Iam with Angie,I have only tryed SUP six or so times, being a Champion longboarder, without a clue ,WOT is good???? (SUP)I had the pleasure of meeting Angie a couple of weeks ago,and found her more than helpful without trying the hard sell (crap) that i see in the surfing industry!!!!!!!!!!Although i don't know a dam thing abouT SUP, I know when someone is talking shhhhhh!
Now, as I see it ,SUP is going OUT of CONTROL (all good) SO you guy's need to learn how to get along! Yep, i have a dear freind who imports SUP from Hawaii, which my best mate bought, but after reading your blogs and talking to people, I know which board i will be riding! (DJ) 11.4 oh and its YELLOW!

Keep it real without crap, geeeee go to work for crap!

Angie,
I havrnt ridden a penetrator yet but I would have thought a 14 could catch runners? If it can't, your right. Stuey?

yeah scotty i'm sure you could get a few runners on a 14 but for the minimal cost of going that extra 2 feet its so worth it. I remember doing a race on my 11'6 naish and at the time i thought i was going alright and getting some runners but now after doing heaps of good down winders on a 16 footer i now know what real runners are and you can link them up and actually go over waves the speed these boards get when on runners are the key.
To me making 2 classes so close to each other seems kind of silly, But maybe i'm wrong i have known to be on the odd occasion

When we look around and see what boards are out there in aus at the moment most seem to be over 16 foot or thats all I've seen at the races. I don't like the idea of making a class just because a couple of company's made certain size board. I think we should make them for the fun factor because thats whats going to pull more people in to the events.

This is just MO
