i've tried it. if your tired it's hard, if the waters choppy it's hard. change overs are hard- get it wrong, fumble around a bit and you've lost time, especially if someone is pressuring you.
no so easy to do well and constantly. also your general technique can break down if your not careful
cheers
do you think part of that is using a longer paddle and not holding the top handle.... Im guessing for shorter sprint races in the surf say 1km a short paddle and higher cadence may work for some???
from what i can make out, yes higher cadence, but also you use different muscles with the elbow down and more aligned with the body.
so you in affect share the work load around.
my paddles are 12" above and when i go connor style my top hand is close to the handle.
connor's paddles look really long, i guess when he needs to speed it up he drops the hand down.
bottom hand position also has a lot to do with stroke lenght/cadence and power.
someone explained it like gears.really low bottom hand -ie 1 st gear- short stroke/high cadence
i think you will find when connor has his top hand down his lower hand will be down around knee height.
it like golf in the way you can be in and out of form. long time paddlers always have the years experience on us 2 to 3 year newbies
cheers
