i guess there's only one way to find out

but i reckon.....

unless you weigh less than forty kilos it'd be more like a sink up to your knees paddle board....

Welcome to the Breeze Mark and good question.

The answer is no.. I can't even kneel paddle my 9'4" Mal.

Demo a real SUP board and you'll soon see why most SUP boards are around 30" wide.

interesting answers.I can sup my 9'3 takayama "in the pink" also my friends 9'6 McTavish old PSD, in fact the McTavish surfs the points here at Noosa better than my Surfshapes 9' which was supposed to be shaped for the points.
I weigh about 70 kilos and am 5'9" and have surfed since 63 so even though ancient maybe in age, do have abit of experience.
So it is possible

Sup'ed yesterday with a guy who was on what I thought was a mal. He was floating but that was about all. Couldn't catch a wave, it was small but a purpose built sup board is what he needed. IMHO its not the length, width but the thickness that does it. Keep the mal for what it was made for and get a Sup.

Just so you know, a typical beginner SUP is 10-12' x 28-30" x 3.5-4" It usually has a wide nose, which makes a difference to stability.

A mal will be 9-9'6" x 21-23" x 2" so your mal will be barely half the board that others are using.

You can test it out for yourself easy enough. Get into some fairly smooth water on your mal. Stand up on it. If you can just stand still without falling or struggling then you can SUP on it.
