Love to know how our local guys went as well.

Looking forward to an update on here from one of the crew. Great experience just to paddle with people of that calibre.

Just spoke with Danny. They are all currently at the awards ceremony.

Danny Sheard - 1st 14' Division 45-55 Yrs
Phil Gregory - 3rd in UL 45 - 55 yrs
Jacko - 8th in 30-45yrs for UL
Angie - 2nd 14' Womens 30 - 45yrs
Courtney Gray - 9th in 30-45yrs for UL
Alison Fullager - 2nd Under 29 yrs UL
Jasleigh Geary - 1st Under 29 yrs 14'
Simon Dodd - 10th 30 - 45 yrs 14'

The unlimited started first followed 3 mins later by 14' then followed another 3 mins later by 12'6". Conditions were good he said but it wasn't classified as an "epic/typical" Maliko day. Good runs though.

So am I right in saying that IronPhil was that fastest Aussie coming in 16th out of a field of over 200 and even beating Mark Raaphorst (29th).. Wow!.. Congrats Phil.. .. Congrats to all the Aussies that gave it a go.

The overall results are by the paddlers times (stop watch). Don't forget thought that the 14's left 3-4 mins later and then the 12'6" 3 mins after them.

It's better to compare the "pace" when paddlers go off in split starts or when comparing different board lengths.

But even when you look at the "pace" column which is interesting when comparing board classes, Phil still had the faster pace with 8.29 compared so Danny with 8.43 (14' class) and Jacko with 8.40 (UL) and Courtney 8.41 (UL). They were the 4 fastest Aussies.

So yes Phil did go well.

Also not to forget WA's Sup girl Fernanda Ometti placing 5th in the Unlimited Womens (30-45) and 6th Overall Womens ... she just got ahead of me! :)

She was the first aussie girl to cross the line. It was an awesome race and such an amazing experience! I'll be back next year!

Today's race was heaps of fun. Conditions were better than anything I've had for a race back home, but the locals were saying it wasn't that great, so I can't wait to see what 'really good' here is. Hopefully we get some epic conditions over the next few days before it's time to head home.
Great to see so many Aussies over here competing - looking through the complete results there were 24 Aussies listed, though I think there may have been even more!

G'day everyone
Thanks for your replies. Was an unreal race after the first 10 minutes when the wind kicked in. I got some unreal runners. I was doing really good time and then I was on an unreal runner and F#^#^#n fell off with the downwinders leg rope wrapping around the string of my board shorts...undoing them and pulling my pants down to my knees. I was thinking - well do I just throw them off and paddle nude -?? I pulled them up and thought bugger tying them up.. But when you fall you loose so much ground- like 100's of metres. so i had to dig deep to catch them again- I then caught Courtenay and had a chat to him to try and psyc him out and I fell in AGAIN...from now on Im keeping my mouth shut!

I stayed out wide again getting some unreal runners all the way into the harbour. I was pretty happy with my time my GPS said 16km in 84mins. When I hit the finish line I jumped off my board and ran as fast as I can....which is FAST.

Skill Johnson the commentator said over the PA ''Look at this guy go" and he's working on his sun tan aswell.. and then says to me - how old are you mate - 30? I go..Nahhhh 48.

All I can say is that I'll be back in 2012 for another Maliko run

see ya in da ocean

What a wicked place to paddle!

We are having a blast doing downwinders everyday. The locals are even saying that it's not the best wind conditions but yet for us we are loving it.

I was stoked to finish 2nd overrall in 14ft female class and 2nd in age group against some of the hardest 14ft ladies ever!! The top 4 girls in the 14ft class battled it out the whole way with the lead changing all the time!! I can tell you i worked by butt off the stay in front of donna raphoorst, just finishing in front of her, i was stoked.

Jazz did really well too coming in 4th overall but 1st in her age class for 14ft.

Jacko did well and was leading until he got rudder problems halfway, he didn't even know the rudder had broken until alison told us at the finish line. Coming in 8th overall was excellent out of 218 paddlers.

Ali did well coming in 2nd in her age group.

Phill is just living life to fullest over here!!

Well it's 10:30 in the morning over here and wind is already starting to happen, so im getting my board really to put on the roof of the van!! WWOOHHOOO

The forecast is looking HOT all week.

Jazz and i can't wait for molokai now!!

Hey DJ.... yeah I flew in last night and back at work today (ARR reality and totally JET LAGGED!!!) I really miss hawaii... but due to work commitments I couldn't do Molokai this year. Hopefully next year! I ended up using Mark's personal F16 for the race.. I would of loved to have brought it back. It was much lighter than the other F-16s. I believe Phil and Mark Hux are bringing boards over. They are going in a container with other SIC boards that are coming into the country. I think from what they were saying it will be a few months... after using the F16.. I think I will end up ordering one from Mark. I really liked the feel of the boards, they are super fast on runners but still quite stable! I just have to save the pennies after being in hawaii for 5 weeks!

WA Not that I've been to Hawaii, but I reckon we have fantastic conditions during the summer months with our sea breezes.
