Just curious, what are your thoughts on daylight saving being introduced north of the border.
I have been up Noosa plenty of times over the years and still can't believe how light it is so early in the day.
I also recall a few schooly trips to the Goldy and waking up at what I thought was about 10am only for the clock to show 5:45am. Yeh, I'd been asleep for a bloody hour. Late 80's that was.

Personally I would rather have the light at the start of the day -

less people in the water!!

Dont care either way, but kiakaha has definately got a good point. Not sure if opinions of surfers will sway the government though.

Moving up from NSW I actually now prefer the early light. Way better for fitness training as it's a cooler part of the day plus usually less wind.

I live 2 mins from the NSW - Qld border and at times the time diff is a pain but we live with it. But how do you divide a whole state? Far North QLD is equatorial and has pretty much the same sunrise and sunset year round, the tropic of Capricorn runs through QLD. North QLD already feels divided and seperate from the South. Would the time diff make it even worse?

For many parts of the state it would not be desirable.

The Dawny is the most crowded time of the day here anyway so no real difference here on that front.

Leave it as it is. More tiime to surf before work.

Good when you live 4 door from the beach and a block from work.

Surfs blown out by the afternoon in summer so being a morning person I'd be all for reverse daylight savings. How it is is ok though, surf before and after work. What I want to know is what is this bloody government going to do about these short days in winter

That's my favourite part of Qld holidays - the early mornings. Gets me up and about for a couple of hours doin' my thing and back in time for brekky with the family. And it's dark earlier so the squids go to sleep at a respectable time, which doesn't happen down here in summer.
Daylight saving should be repealed in the southern states IMO.

don't think that you necessarily need daylight saving, but would be good if we just moved everything forward by an hour. ie started work at 7.30am instead of 8.30am, school started earlier etc.

This way no one gets upset the cows can still do their thing, the curtains don't change colour, we just take advantage of light that is already available.

My 2c anyhow.

I can't work out why any surfer on the East Coast would want "Daylight Saving". QLD is fine just the way it is, thanks.

There is enough light in summer to surf at 5:30am (4:30am north of the border). Surely that's early enough.

Daylight saving will never happen in QLD..... We had it years ago around 87-88... but it was voted out...

Its been a long heated debate but it has been ruled out by both Labor and Coalition Governments...

I don't mind getting up at 4.30-5am in summer.... Early bird gets the worm or waves in our case!!! I like not having daylight saving - I get to surf nearlly 2 hours before work every day in summer... its winter that's a killer!

You are right on the money! For much of the year on the Gold Coast I can surf for at least 2 hours every morning before work. We have got it good up here, so why would we want that to change?

Queensland, along with all the other mainland Australian states adopted a trial of Daylight Saving in 1971. QLD didn't continue with it after that untill 1989-91 when another trial of daylight savings was run. A referendum was held in 1992 where 54% of QLD'ers voted against daylight savings.

I'm neither for or against, as a windsurfer I could use the light in the afternoon, but as a surfer the light in the morning is good.

I think, regardless of what the Gov't says, if a poll was run now it would be a vote in favour. The population of the south east of the state has grown at a far higher rate than other parts of the state and this is the area that voted in favour at the last poll. Problem then is that any Gov't that supports a vote will be seen as supporting DLS and will not likley remain in power after that term.

I can surf or sail for 4 hours after work during daylight saving and still have a normal sleep.

I can surf at 530 in the morning and still get to work for 8 if I choose to

Daylight saving rocks

The curtain businesses do really well out of it as well

So are you one of 300 odd inbred fishing families that come from either of the coasts? From Brissy? Or a Stanthorpe local? God forbid you aren't an indigenous Australian are you? Please spare us all!!! Go Maroons, crush those damn cockroaches!!!. Got to go Cam Smith scored a Try and those Blues Biased refs are trying to find something, anything to overturn it.

In Northern NSW summer afternoons usually have NE winds chopping the surf up so day light saving is a waste of time for surfing. Good for kiting though. I used to love the 4.30 surfs at kirra when i lived up there. surfing for 3 hours before work made the day so much more bearable. I wish they'd can it in NSW. I have blinds not curtains and buy my milk from the shops so the rest doesn't bother me.

Personally I love summer on the Gold Coast with no daylight savings. There is nothing better than grabbing a board and walking across the road to the beach at 4.30 in the morning with the sun up, and no traffic, no noise, nobody in the water and just the odd person about walking their dog on the beach or an early jogger and it really is just a special time of day - and in my opinion the perfect start to the day. Yes it makes the day a tad long sometimes when you are working, but its amazing how much better you feel rocking up at work, having had an early surf, a nice breaky and you really feel ready to tackle anything.
Yeah, I know commercially it doesnt make sense not having daylight savings here on the goldy but I don't really give a rats - it suits me just fine the way it is

Must not agree, must not agree...... Oh screw it. I agree with Bill. Nothing better than Summer early mornings. DST would ruin them, 5:30 is just not a challenge!

Don't stop at 4:30am. Perhaps you can lobby the QLD gov to actually wind the clock BACK an hour or even 2hrs. Imagine hitting the surf at 2:30am with a whole 1/2 day of surfing before
work.

Dead against it - don't start until 8.30 - 9.00am with knock-off around 5pm so I am able to get lot of waves in before work. It is rarely offshore past 11.00am over the warmer months.

Flat water paddle in Creek in the afternoon stops me from drinking stubbies at the Alley

I work in a bank and cover Tweed to Soutport & often tell my boss in Brisbane that I start Qld time & finish NSW time
