Looking at covering a few bases at once: downwind, crusing, sup-fishing. What would be the minimum length to be able to succesfully downwind (not talking about racing) does width make a diffrence? Will apprecaite some advice and even the some abuse which is expected

IMO about 12' and I think width does make a difference.

That's a great board for cruising and fishing but it will let you down on a down-winder compared to real down wind type boards.. Still do'able.

i'm no downwind expert, but i would say at least 12 foot, if your a lightweight, or even longer depending on how serious you are, the nsp's are great boards but not for downwinders, theres plenty of great downwind boards you just have to demo them and find one you like.

Go to 14. Angulo Shaka 14 x 30. The most stable board I have ever been on, great fishing platform. Very pleasant to cruise on, and surprisingly capable downwind - in fact in gnarly conditions it will put a smile on your face when other twitchier downwind boards are giving you a hard time.

Great value too. It's the board that all my friends always ask to borrow. And they ask a lot...

The Fanatic 30.5" is a good board too. It will be marginally faster in pure flatwater but the Angulo would murder it downwind, and when you are done you can paddle your whole family around on the Angulo as well. Plus the dog.

Call Dale Chapman, he will make it as wide as you need it. Even custom install some fishing rod holders into the deck. Go a DC14 at 30 wide and have a super fast board that would be great for everything you need. Mine even surfs great.

Would be great for trolling, just paddle along with rod stuck in the rod or rods in the rod holders with the lures out the back.

Have a look at an Amundson 12'6" TR - 29.5" wide, super stable, easy to paddle, but with a fine entry with nose rocker. Great for flat water, and super easy for downwind stuff. Good volume too.

Finding a board that will cover all bases is like buying a golf club that covers all shots. Probably doable but not going to good for anything in particular. Probably why my collection is steadily growing and why the mrs now has a new 12'6"

Have a look at the Amundson 12'6" TR - 29.5" wide, very stable, great on the river, and very well suited for the ocean and downwinders with fine entry and good nose lift.
I've used mine heaps here in the West in all conditions, and absolutely love it.

I know a guy selling a 12' naish glide. Not sure of the width but a good alrounder that could suit what you are after.

thanks for the advice - I demod the 12'0 nsp touring sup. great glide but a\quite wobly for fishing therefore had a wider nose in mind. already a garage full of gear kite, surfing sups ect. will have to compromise either downwind or fishing. Cheers R
