On a recent surf trip we all payed out for the standard travel insurance and while away sadly several boards were severely damaged while in transit, now it appears the most they can claim back after excess is about $300.

So if your board cost around $900 your probably only going to get about 30% back? For a policy that costs from $65 to $130 depending on who you go with?

However, our household insurer just advised that I can take out additional cover for sporting goods as a part of our household policy, but only for while in transit and not while being used. So now I can claim up to $10k while travelling within AUS and NZ, or up to $5k anywhere else in the world!

It cost about another $120 per annum, but if your travelling with a couple of carbon SUPs and paddles $5k doesn't take long to add up and now I've got 12mths cover.

Had being talking to DC he has found a insurance mob who for 12 months at $200 will cover board any where Well worth looking into if 1 you are getting a new board freighted to you or you have a epic surf trip coming up . A few of us had some damage coming back from the menties not so much going there could have had a bit to do with packing up to head home you do put as much effort into protection of boards .We watch a few of our boards just getting dropped from the plane to the luggage trolley on the run way .As always till they have to pay out you just will not know . I will be looking into it just saved 5k on our workers comp insurance with one phone call worth ringing around that = one dugout DC and a 12/6 bop just about
