Had a quick go on Dale Chapman,s new 14 thismorning , it is very fast. The fastest board ive tried , pretty tippy for my weight though. Interesting design and they will probably refine it even further.

Different board. Laceys 14 was the DC14 DW board.

The board Teatree paddled this morning is a full blown experimental river/lake flatwater board.

Dale did win his division in the the Creek to Creek on the weekend on it though. Only 2 mins behind Jacko and Andy Davies who won the open classes. As an older gentleman who does not train anywhere near as much as these guys i'd say the board is pretty fast.....

Definately a fast board how much faster who knows , raises an interesting question though if some one come out with a design that is faser than everything else , will race organizers put restrictions on board design to try keep a level playing field? With sup racing becoming more proffessional and decent prize money on offer. Not saying this board is the fastest , just posing the question.

I was thinking about this after the weekend race. Maybe a minimum width requirement, we have length limits already so width just follows. ?????

we already have limitations (lenght, mono hull, mono fin for some races...)
If a board is faster than other boards, board makers will look at it and find another idea to make it even faster.
Limitation will kill any evolution.
Nobody asked Jamie how wide are his paddle boards when he wins the molokai or travis if his board is tippy
Should we have asked jacko to paddle a wider and slower 12'6 last sunday because we don't have the ability to padlle his board?
At the end of the day if some padllers have a better technique and can paddle a narrower board what can you say? Maybe they deserve to win.
Every other paddler will just look stupid losing their balance on the same board.
Let the design evolve freely,at the end of the day the paddler will always be the limitation and will always make the difference.

Completely agree but at the rate boards are advancing it seems you need a new one each month. And the latest and greatest boards aren't available to everyone, can you call it an even playing field??

Will the boards ever reach a point when changes don't make a massive difference?? Or do you guys think we are already there??

I agree on some points , you should not limit evolution , so you could have an unresticted class to see which board is best. But you dont see olympic paddling sports with different designs , you dont see one boxer wearing 10 oz gloves and the other 5 oz. If you dont have a level playing field the winners will be decided by money not talent. Remeber the fast suits in swimming. At present i dont think there is a big difference in board design and speed , so best paddler wins. thats not to say their wont be.

and kiddies this is a flatwater board foremost. dale paddled this board in the creek to creek.

dales balance is exception like if you see him fall off any time you feel like should have a camera to capture the moment.

restrictions- why should some one like dale, jacko etc etc be penalised for there skills tfrom a life time of surfing , paddling etc.
they will still beat you on any board anyway

just some thoughts

stock class maybe- theres enough of those red 12'6 boards around

btw its good to see jacko break through with some great results- well done

Jackie is an awesome paddler and I have no doubt he could beat me on a 10foot mana!

However board limitations are not because "we mortals" have no balance and no chance of standing on a narrow board, it's so that people in the loop can't get the latest boards each week to stay on top.

Restrictions may disadvantage the top few, but no restrictions "might" be restricting the other 99%.

Not making excuses for myself but does this point make sense????

Not sure about that. What if I can't afford a new board for 2 years should there be a division for that? I think there should be no restrictions other than length to both help the sport move forward and to keep some excitement at events to see who is riding what and what works best for who. After all one mans trash might be another mans treasure and what might be a good standard board in one set of conditions won't necessarily work in others. You see on the WCT guys riding the equipment that suits them. I think everything will end up sorting itself out without the need for regulations.
