I'm a newbie to this cool sport and have a Guy Leach Seak 10'6 as my first board. I think my paddling techniqe is OK, but she does not want to stay in a straight line. (the fin is 8") Someone mentioned fibreglassing a rail on the side? Where would I put it? and what profile etc? and how do I do it!!?, I would like to take it in a small wave, would the rail be better / worse for the surf?

dont fibreglass anything to your board. your seak should paddle fairly straight as it doesnt have a lot of rocker and is pretty narrow. Just work on your technique. As for surfing ive got a couple of the longer seaks, 11.6 i think which the kids use for paddling. You can surf on them but theyre, tippy and nose dive a lot. Unless you understand hydro dynamics adding anything to your board is going to change things for the worse. This is why good shapers take decades to hone their skills. If you want to surf and want a board that paddles ok go and try boards by naish like the mana, the fanatic allwave or any of a myriad of starboards shapes. The Seak is a good way to learn how to balance and the basics of paddling but thats about it. It appears that your ready to move up to a better performing board.

Try a 9-10" fin.. That should make a big difference.
