Melb Water up to their tricks again?

Aftermath of this morning's dawn patrol at my local, in otherwise glassy, windless conditions:

Because I might demo that board tomorrow and have it tucked under my arm carrying it to the water and wonder what that smell is..

the bay is the colour of urine left in the bowl after half a dozen pisses, disappointing and not a mention from the Melbourne Water about the sewer discharge warning bay users to not to.....
Good thing we have responsible people running those organisations for we'd be in a right royal mess otherwise

I was speaking to the mooring contractor down at Sandy today. He said that the 2 moorings he had pulled up had mussels all over them and all the mussels were dead.
That is a bad sign.

Melb water again pumped raw sewage straight into the bay again last Thurs after all that rain... hardly any publicity this time?

Made the news when they did it last Feb:

www.theage.com.au/environment/sustainability/sewage-released-into-citys-waterways-20110214-1atnj.html

How the hell can they get away with out warning people? If it was an individual or a company doing this they would get flogged!

I hope someone get's sick and sues the asses off the govt.

FWIW it was visibly cleaner this morning, but lord knows what's in it. On the upside I have extra motivation to stay upright (2 mornings in a row no swims ).

The public acknowledgment of raw sewage is fairly new but it is common knowledge that you don't go into the bay after heavy rain.

It used to be dog poo and oil muck off the roads. A couple of years ago it was admitted that some of the older suburbs have all sorts of illegal sewage connections into the storm water system.

What is inexcusable is that the EPA only tests the beaches a couple of times a week. They don't retest after rain so you can have a beach report on the web site that says the beach is clean when the water quality is actually very poor.

PS On my bike ride to work the other morning there was a SUP traffic jam around Elwood. This morning was dead glassy. I saw PTWoody's car but did not see any paddlers.

Warwick and I paddled to the Spirit of Tasmania and back. Interesting water colour.

^^^ Haha, running an ad for 'Jamie Oliver' as I read about Maccas mess!

A few years ago I was on a footy trip in Adelaide (Hindley St), walked into Hungry Jacks at about 2am & it was like that. The staff wouldn't come out from behind the counter to clean up (can't blame them - only kids).

As for clean water - our spots are all straight off the Southern Ocean. I went for a paddle a couple of nights ago and could see every ripple in the sand although I would've been in about 15-20m of water - magic.
