Fellow Sea breezers,
Just curious to now if anyone has tried changing out the 10" factory fin in the ron house 12' tuflite for something alternate.
Any feedback would be welcome

Hey There,

I experimented with the 12'2 x 31 x 41/4 Laird which is also a Ron House Design,

In conjuction with Dave Boyd of Imperial Surf Boards we tired lots of fins.

The one I liked the most was a 8 1/2 cut away which made the board for its size able to pivot remarkably off the tail.

I agree that if you want to throw the board around your going to need a big open face but it really can be done!

Try PC7 inside foil fins with a 5'1/4 centre fin if your a big kahoona 100+
Try PC5 5 1/4 85 - 100
Try PC3 51/4 70 - 85

david from greenline reckons a raker fin is needed in the 12 foot ron house boards, makes the board pivot. fatter fin don't allow it do this

Raker fin ?? as in a fin that is raked back eg like a sailboard weed fin

For once I am with mac on this one. 9 inch would be the smallest you would ever want to go with a 12ft board IMO and any decent fibreglass dolphin fin or similar shape will work just fine. Longer sups are just like mals in that most of the turning ability of the board is the rider and not the fin. Yeah yeah I know that fins can make the board looser or tighter or more pivoty etc but all boards will turn with whatever fin you put in them. I have actually been riding a 12ft board in recent weeks and it is best with a 9 to 10 inch fin. It paddles great and surfs well down the line and holds on the face nice and it TURNS no problem. I believe the secret with bigger sups is to put the best fin in it that you can afford (whether that be $50 or $150) put it somewhere near half way in the box and go surfing and forget about the fin forever. Simple but effective. These are only my personal opinions though.
