I finally got out for my first time on a sup board down at peli point. I had a go on the starboard 12'6'' first up and my first impressions were that it was a little more tippy than i was expecting. However I started to feel more comfortable within 5 mins or so. I also gave a naish 11'6'' a go to compare. In terms of stability they felt similar however in the flat water i could feel that the 12'6'' glides better. My final verdict was that its hard work going into the wind but in sheltered flat water its very relaxing just paddling around. I think for me (mainly going to be flat water and small surf) the starboard looks to be a goer I just can't decide between them. Either the 11'2'', 12' or the 12'6''. If anyone has opinions I would be grateful to hear them.
Now i'm looking forward to getting the balance happening along with the confidence and skills and having a go in the surf.

If it's a Starboard that you want I would suggest this one..

You need to demo one.

The big Naish would be a good choice also..It's probably a better choice for the surf and still works well on flat water.

Also you should also check out the Kalama...It's a really nice allrounder..and very stable..IMO

Thanks for that. The 11'2'' is one that i am definitely keen to try. What are your thoughts on that board compared to the southpoint 11'6''?

I agree Akhawk the 12'6 is definately a glider and would be fun in small surf but you cant restrict yourself to just going out in small surf. At what height do you not go out in? You will find yourself going anyway so I reckon that the 12'6 would be the go ONLY if you use it 90% for flat water and the 10% in waves no bigger than knee high? Anything bigger you would most likely want to have a shorter board as you will find the longer the board the more struggle you will have trying to keep the nose from nose diving? Even in head high waves I sometimes find myself nose diving.
Dont be scared of the 11'2 in thinking its gonna be too small. I would let you paddle it but I think if you get down to Cott tomorrow morning and demo it there you will know quicker.
