I've just got into this stand up stuffGets me off my fat bum for a bit of exercise.
So far only a few paddles on an 11.6 no name entry level board that ticks all the boxes for me so far,flat water lake paddling.Waiting for the big wind swell to try out a bit of surfing.
So after all that the question.
I am experiencing a lot of foot pain,mostly under the instep,kinda like a cramp but more a pressure thing.Anyone got a solution for this?
Deck pad on my board is not a smooth surface but has 1 or 2mm high raised pattern,could this be the prob?
Do not worry - its a normal problem for most at the start. You are probably putting too much pressure on the board through yr feet whilst trying to maintain yr balance etc. Relax a bit more. As your confidence grows and your balance you will stop trying to grab the board with your toes!
So yep - a small bit of pain ahead but it will disappear fairly quickly.

Same story every time
It will eventually go away as you get more relaxed and get use to paddling. You're just a bit tense and trying to grip with your toes... It will go away.
Grips can be uncomfortable on very long session but it's often a case of moving up and down the board to get the blood flowing a bit.

Kinda thought this might be the case but wondered if there might be an easy answer to the prob.

Paddling on Lake Taupo,water clear enough to see the bottom down to about 30 or so feet,clean enough to drink and still warm enough to swimNot for to much longer as winter is just around the corner,brrrrr
