Hi all, GF has indicated she wants a SUP. It will be used in flat perfect weather, probably used 5 times then never looked at again. She is around 45kg. Based in SA, but hopefully would arrive in one piece via a courier. Any recommendations? Cheers

You are going to need a 1 piece paddle cut to length too. At 45kg, she can't be much over 5'0".

If you think she will only use it for a short time, get something that you would like, win win

Wisha, love your humour, and your take on the problem at hand.

Regarding boards for the girls, it's a bit like the real estate basic rule of "Position, Position, Position."
Except it's :
They have to be able to lift it on/off the car and carry it to the water
They have to be able to lift it on/off the car and carry it to the water
They have to be able to lift it on/off the car and carry it to the water.

micksmith has the right idea too. There's a Deep 8'10" * 32" in Noarlunga advertised on the Breeze that looks the goods.

Or DJ's recommendation is good too

My other half was the same, i found a cheap board locally that was 10 x 30 with a paddle for less than $850. Turns out she is a flat water paddler and loves it in the summer to just laze around soaking up the sun.

Dear wisha
As a 45kg gal, I highly recommend if she wants no one else to use it , flat water only and reasonable price and indestructible just get a bic 9"6
Light enough to get on the roof of the car etc
If you want other people to be able to use it get a 10'6 - it's a bit big to carry but trade off others can use

Cheers
Reggie

Ps my other half also thought I would only use it 5 times too

Fast forward 12 months and I am growing a quiver from my secret bank account , surf and downwind (stashed under garage) accidentally getting small enough boards where my husband can't quite ride - what a shame?!?!

So be careful what you start haha

I thought the saying was "location, location, location"? But maybe with the girls in Australia it is "position, position, position"? You guys would know better than I ;)

But Helmy is dead right. It's hard for a bloke to understand how critical the weight/carrying thing is.

But in general it is probably best to let her make the choice rather than to do it for her. All my wife cares about is what colour it is, how much it costs, and if she can carry it. None of these criteria figure much in my own purchasing decisions so it's hard for me to see things from her perspective. But maybe your situation is different...

Blue Planet will be releasing the new Namotu model soon that would be perfect for her, 9'0 x 29 x 4.25 x 138L which will be part of their Waikiki nose rider series and will be available in both their bamboo carbon hybrid construction which is super strong and their full carbon construction.
