Garuda airlines have just announced a 15 kg free allowance for sporting equipment. This is over and above your 20 kg normal baggage. The sporting equipment entails; surfboards, bikes, para/gliders, para/sails, golfbags ,snow and water skis & poles. Garuda, also offer free checked baggage, free meals, drinks and entertainment. This great news for surfers travelling to Indonesia.
That's why I'm going with them in September SYD-DPS-SYD $800-you get all the extra baggage-direct flights-food (kind of)-a 747 (oldish)-way better than SuckStar-been with them the last 2 years and they are just so crappy (safer? perhaps).
Not sure if it's free, but it's WAY cheaper with extra baggage than SuckStar ($20/kg):

2. Excess baggage of sporting equipment up to first 15 (fifteen) kilograms will be charged at a special rate as follow :
* Outbound Australia AUD 6 per kilogram.
* Outbound Denpasar USD 5 per kilogram.
a. Travel between Australia and Denpasar :
b. Travel other than between Australia and Denpasar is charged 6 (six) kilograms only or actual excess baggage weight if less than 6 (six) kilograms at normal excess baggage rate.
3. The next excess baggage of more than 15 (fifteen) kilograms will be charged at applicable normal excess baggage rate.
4. When the original baggage (excluding sporting equipment) is over the passenger baggage allowance, the excess will be assessed first at normal applicable excess baggage rate.
