Keen surfer here, Ive seen a few crew stand up paddle surfing down south and around dutch inn in the last year or so and have gotta say it looks like hell fun. Keen to get into it over this spring / summer and have got a few questions:

1. Which are the best shops around Perth to purchase a setup from?
2. Do any of the manufacturers or shops do demo days to have crack before buying one?
3. What would be a good size board and brand for myself? Im 5'11" 80 kgs, main purpose of buying the board would be to ride waves but would also like to use it to cruise around the lower stretches of the river for fitness, the skin on my chest doesn't appreciate too many 6km paddles in the river on my short board over the summer.

Cheers

Hi SKIPPO,

There are many stores around the Perth area that are into SUP. Some of the ones that we supply are, S.O.S, Second Wind, AIRBORNE Kitesurfing, WINDFORCE Watersports and Scarborough Longboards. You should be able to organize a demo with any of these stores.

At your weight you could go for any board really, but for the fitness and river paddling, I definately suggest going for a board that is at least 11'6", they are much faster to paddle than the smaller ones.

Good luck, I know your gonna love it!

We currently have a Starboard 12'6, 12,2, 11'2 and the Naish 11'6 available for Demo.

We are out on them all the time - give us a call or send us a message if you are keen to meet up to try some of them out.

hey airborne ,
let me know next time you're going out ;

I'm in the water pretty much every day (when i'm not windsurfing) and also mostly at dutchies or scarbs but probably not at the same time coz I never see you,

It's more fun when there is a small crew,
see you

Hey Skippo,
It depends what you want to do. The larger boards are cool if your looking to cruise or doing it for fitness or you think you might ride your board in choppy water. At 80kg, if you are into surfing waves and don't mind a bit of a challenge, go for a 10' or a 10'6". The larger boards are massive. I am 90kg and I ride a 10' no worries in good conditions.
Regards,
Scott

but what about the price its not cheep. really wanna get into it, but close too 2000 or more is just to much for a poor school student making 120 buks a week, not 1000 like some of you brickies, and sparkeys. who besides eric344, because i no he does, rides a mistral one, thats the one i would be intrested in because i like the idea of the mast track, althogh most of them have it the mistral design apeals to me too., and how much did you pay and where from

Hi guys,
Had my 1st session on the naish this morning at the currumbin alley. I was out for ages and had a ball, what a great sport. My arms feel like they are about to drop off and my legs are sore as.

There was a couple of other guys out this morning as well, only really small waves but super glassy and no crowds, we all had heaps of fun.

Love it.

xx angie

Hey Skippo,

I am heading out down at Brighton beach Scarborough today after work, say 5.20 if you are keen for a look. It may be a slightly challenging day if you have not had a go before. As for Sunday its looking a tad windy at 15kn NW but you never know things do change. We will keep you posted.

I work at Airborne by the way, that's why I am posting.

Cheers

Marco

Hey Courts,
Cheers again for the paddle. Lovin the JL 10. I find I don't bother surfing my shortboard unless waves are good. Probally SUP more often in SA cos waves near town are poo and the SUP is really helping my back injury. Catch you in Margs one day.
Cheers again,
Scotty mac
