I was wondering if someone could give me a quick step by step procedure for performing slow motion in VirtualDub. Thanks.

Firstly you need to set the camera to 720 x 60fps and film in that , this will reduce picture size but allow a much smoother slowmo.

If you shoot in 1080 size once you convert your slomo it will be jerky , not familiar with your video programme , but don't look for slow motion look for video effects and speed and slow it down to a max of 50%.

Top advice on this forum as usual ...

The 1080p on the go pro is actually not as nice to look at (compression macro blocking starts coming through) as the 720 p - so dont even bother with it - 720 p is the sweet spot for this camera

set to r3 mode - thats 720p / 60fps

- you can actually slow down nearly 2.5 x or 40 % as you are conforming 60 fps to 25 fps real time. No need to be editing in 30fps - unless you just love everything from the USA.

You will need something that tells virtual dub to play out 25 frames per second to get the overcrank slo mo going. Most programs just throw out or skip the extra frames so you still get jerky slo mo when you slow it down - which is highly frustrating.

On a mac its a synch - just reconform in cinema tools - on a PC with virtual dub you will probably have to google some long winded approach to pull off the slo mo correctly.

The Twixtor slo mo plug will get you down as slow as 10 - 20 % real time -it builds the extra frames using interpolation- its a great plug in - but you will have to fork over some bucks for it.

And it takes some skill and time investment to get the most out of it.
And you will probably need vegas or premiere to host it.
