Hi All

We are planning to go to Bali for Christmas next year. I am an intermediate SUP surfer and my partner is better than me. We want to stay near a beach that is not overcrowded with smaller than head high waves. We just want a laid back surf every day while we are there with no hassles. So overcrowded surf spots are not for us.

I'm looking for advice of where to stay, best laid back places close to above mentioned beaches. We are not shoppers or touristy. Being in close proximity to reasonable eateries would be great. We will be going with at least one other couple so if anyone has rented a house in a lovely surf spot could you let me know what to expect.

Thanks all.

We went Dec/Jan 2012 and stayed at Nusa Dua in the Hyatt. Perfect spot for a range of ability levels with gentle breaks right out front - more challenging stuff to the left and right, with big outside reefs for the more adventurous. None of the horrible chaos of Kuta but some nice little villages nearby for cheap eats and shopping if that's your thing.

We had no need for transport to surf over a 10 day stay and there where waves everyday. I presume you know that the east side of the island is the go that time of the year. We took all our own equipment but plenty of hire options. It rained a lot but winds were generally light and offshore Apart from one spot, the crowds where minimal.
