Just wondering what a good pace on flat water with NO WIND is for any distance up to 10 km's. Send thru some times with the distance. Just curious.

8 km/50 mins is my best- up and down course. one way is always faster than the other. tidal run makes it different. anywhere between 50 to 60 mins is doing alright. also depends on what board

If you got a yellow board you know they go faster than the rest of them...

I do 8km on the Glide 14 Banana in about 60 minutes. 17 Glide cuts it down to about 55 mins. Depends on conditions though... This is flat water, and semi flat ocean, not DW...

iPhone App's with a good water resistant bag is a great way to measure. I have Nike+GPS, but I like the look of "Trails" better. It has heaps more functions, does altitude... does so much more that Nike+GPS. But Nike+GPS is a good easy one to use.... Simple... Dumbed down I guess...

Lacey has good equipment ! But if you can get into 50-55 minutes per 8km, you're doing really well, and 55-60 is quite OK.

There was a ripper post from "Downwinder", about 5 minute k's, in DW conditions... I don't have time to go searching for it though... But once you are in great DW conditions, you should be aiming for 5 minutes per k. Or Sub 5's !!

Cheers for the info. Know anybody who uses a Garmin 405 or similar ? Technology these days just blows me away. The Garmin will track your speed, distance, pace as well as heart rate. That's gotta be handy info. I assume they are accurate.

Yep, Downwinder uses a "Garmin or similar". Should be technically better that iPhone Apps. Same same, but probably better... especially in regard to the waterproof watch aspect....

Ali Cat on the Goldie has a Garmin wristwatch also.

it took me a year to better my earlier pb of 51.52 mins. used to get about the same but never better. funny thing is the day i did it wasn't anything special conditions wise. when you start getting it down its really hard to better your pb. sometimes i don't look at the timing and i think i'm killing it and the times aweful. other times it seems like you've struggled the whole way and then the times not to bad. i don't regularly time myself. sometimes you just have to do the distance without flogging yourself.

however, as a training crew in the morning we have been working hard on body position/movement technique so you paddle with your good speed at about 75% effect and not an overtly fast rate

i'm really keen to break 50 mins before i get too old and die and i'll have a crack at it again on the 15'3 when get over the sniffles
cheers

Just don't die trying to crack the 50 mins. Then again, what a way to go.

That's our times last time we did a Wendts run (what Lacey's is talking about) about a month ago: Jacko 48min - Beau 48.05min - Angie 54.08min - Dave 54.20 - Sheilds 55.40 - Dave 56.50 - Vince 57.00 - Alison 58.57
It wasnt exactly pristine conditions as far as I remember.

That was from the highway/walkway and back, only 7.45km on the GPS, but conditions weren't great that day. From memory we had a strong headwind going up which dropped out and didn't help us on the way back.

that run is always a cur for headwind. it's either in your face both ways or dies out when you think its going to be behind you coming home

that pb of mine was from the thrower bridge, so i guess its another 800 m or more all up.to balance that i was paddling the 15'3 which is extremely quick and maintances top speed very well

i will be hard pressed to beat that thrower bridge time of mine i think
cheers

That was a M1-Wendts bridge-Thrower Bridge run not a M1-Wendts-M1 like Ali said.
We used the Thrower-M1 as a warm up at the start.
It doesn't make much difference as I think it only adds 390m to the 7.45km.

I've just done a M1-Wendts-GC Highway and the wind was crap... You never get it the way you want, it's just a pain in the arse but it's nice training while everyone is away

I've found strong head winds then return run with tail wind, is still much slower than the same course with no wind.

You will not get true times on a tidal piece of water (like Currumbin), even if you do a there and back run. There are a lot of other factors that will affect things.
