Hi all...long time no see
Quick tale of woe...apparently FCS no longer make my favourite deck grip...specifically the kit with the two raised sections on the centre pad.
Below is a picture of my old seven footer with the pad in question
This is the specific section that I am referring to
Recently picked up the new seven seven (below) and decided to go the tight arse option and bought a tail pad and standard centre pad off the internet...problem was every time I popped to my feet my back foot (left) was way out on the rail...I got wet lots.
The above FCS configuration is a cracker...particularly for the shorter, narrower boards...honestly believe they give you about three inches of extra usable deck space.
Anway, below is the new shooter
After a couple of months Ninja Monkey juggling I ordered a new FCS deck kit from the local surf shop.
In the meantime I got into my box of odds and ends and found some old pieces of FCS pads I had butchered to grip up short boards...I know...idiot!!
With judicious use of sillicone and wetsuit glue I came up with the usable option you see below...my strike rate on pop up is back where it needs to be and the board feels a whole lot more stable whilst paddling...however...its just not comfortable!!
I have arthritis in the toes of my left foot (from dragging my back foot when getting to my feet on shortboards...in effect stubbing my toe every time I stood up)...the ridge created between the two different pads sits right under the toes of my left foot and it gets pretty hard to hack after twenty minutes or so
Which brings me to the crux of the biscuit
Have been waiting for over a month for my new grip kit from FCS only to be told today that they no longer make that style of pad...sheeesh!!
My question good readers is does anyone know of an alternative thats available...specifically with the raised sides or does anyone have that section unused that they would like to part company with for a little above market value??
Also to preempt the obvious...yes I have tried to remove the pad from the seven footer with a view to gluing it onto the seven seven...was never going to end well...and I dont have the patience to sit there for a half an hour trying to soften it up with the Missus hair dryer.
Thanks in anticipation and hope your new year has kicked off with an abundance of all the things that keep you sane, happy and healthy!!!
Cheers

Hey sparx, pretty sure creatures made a similar raised grip. If not you could always build it up with wax

I'll check my loot stash of leftovers

Thanks Mick
Checked Creatures website and cant find it.
Crazy thing is I never used to use that section...when I rode boards with the step/chined rail the deck was always flat so no need for flaired grip...which is why I used to cut it up and put it on my shorties...doh!!
Last five years I've been riding boards with domed decks and rails pinched from below so have needed the extra deck area...live and learn...never cut up your carpet to make a mat!!!
Cheers
