I use squash grip but not the stuff which has absorbant material in it.

You just wrap it on and tap each end works pretty well and is only about $3-$5 (however when converted to NZ$ would probably be about $100

I should joke I am originally from Zimbabwe where it would cost about Zim $2 Billion

I saw that Chuck Patterson used Gerry Lopez's monster Deck grip spray on his paddle in the Battle of the Paddle race in California

Zimbo , unfortunately monster paint is not available here in OZ.It's a shame ,would be ideal for the forward section of a sup rather than messy wax,as we have all found wax has an amazing ability to migrate everywhere when you use a board bag.

Paul.. IMO one of the things that make Kialoa paddles so good is their thin shafts so don't go putting a grip on it that's going to add too much thickness.

Blane, Chuck, Gerry and most of the Kialoa guys use that Monster Paint stuff.

The C4 grip is ok because it's not too thick but I would avoid using tape even tho some use it and like it.

I like the smooth shaft and the way you can slide your hand along it.. You should try a thin coat of surfboard wax first.

BTW.. Those Melbourne'ites who would like to try the Monster Paint stuff I should have some soon.. even though it's not available here..

What do you think of spraying some Monster into the embedded handle of a SUP? I have someone who's fingers keep slipping out of the handle when carrying the board.

Aloha

I only use a tiny bit of wax (a couple of flat wipes down the shaft), mainly just to bead the water off. You shouldn't need to grip all that hard on the shaft when stroking properly, If you grasping your shaft that hard then there is most likely something wrong with your technique and your wasting valuable energy. Your hands should be relatively relaxed, and the paddle becomes an extension of your shoulders. I wouldn't get too carried away with griping it. I haven't tried grip spraying the shaft, but as I said, I don't see the need.

Aloha .. I'm in San Diego, CA and Kona, Hawaii. Haven't used the Monster paint stuff before so figured I'd jump in here and ask.
