I think they are trying to say that the board is good for someone your weight - but needing much more experience/balance. Ideally, you'll need something above 10' and 140+ litres to get you started.

If the board is too good a price to pass on & you have enough money to buy 2 boards - buy it, store it and buy a bigger board to start on...then get it out in a year or so after spending a year on a bigger board...although by that time you'll have more knowledge about what you want in a small board and probably will be more specific in your choices. Good luck!

noosasurfworks.com.au/ Click on the link. Go to Laguna Bay Stand Up Paddle. Send TSJ an email. He'll say yes or no. I reckon no like all of the other guys, but you never know unless you ask the person that made the board. He uses a lot of hand shaping methods that make his boards superior to pop outs. Good luck, BTW have a look at some of his range, amazing variety and excellent quality.

I think it safe to say 8.0x27 1/4 is not going to be a good start for a beginner

Definitely no go as it will be too tippy and real challenge for you especially as you are new to the sport.

It is not the length but the outline shape and width which is too narrow for what you should be starting on.

I would be checking through the for sale section on here to find something more suited to your ability. There are heaps of more suitable boards in the 9 foot size x 29 which would be alot more suitable which you will enjoy more.

Laguna Bay boards are very good, but you have picked a high performance top end board

Cheers

Definitely NO!

You need:
- width for stability. 30" is a safe bet to begin on, it depends on your height
- length for mastering the paddle technique. At least 9'
- volume to be tolerant to your placement mistakes. 130 litres minimum for your weight

I think it's safe to say you're right, did you read my full post? I've underlined and bolded my opinion. Seanne obviously likes TSJ's boards, it might be a good idea to talk to him, what do you reckon? That was the point of my post. I really think we should be supporting our local industry, (I know you do Husq!!) considering it appears a custom is now usually cheaper than a name brand pop out. I love and own Naish's, Fanatics and Supatx ( Go JJ) BTW, but now have a Laguna Bay custom on order. There is nothing wrong with talking to real design experts on potential requirements, even if you then afterwards choose to buy a second hand pop out to suit your purposes.
