I hit the road yesterday at about 6am.. I had loaded my 10' Mana and 9' Hokua onto my little black zook and the sky was soon bright pink with a beautiful sunrise.
Shame this pic doesn't show the true colour of the sky.. I took heaps of pics and about to post them all here now.. What a great w/e and I got some great shots.
After a slight detour (getting lost.. ) I got to the SupVic house and grabbed my Mana and headed for the beach.. It was a great little trail through the trees.
The conditions looked perfect.. You just had to sign up.. grab a board/paddle and hit the waves.
I checked out Leon's new little blue Laguna and it made my 10' Mana look like a barge.. Zak was there putting fins on bemo boards.
I followed Tim from Zak's shop to the water and he was on a McTavish.
I paddled past Warwick from RPS...
...and Luke from SHQ.
Ross on his 9' Hokua.
Oliver on his 9' Coreban.
Alan and hs brother both on Starboards.
Hock paddled out with his son on board and I followed him and took some pics.
He caught about ten waves like this and then his dog joined in on the action.
Mike took the big 12'6" Coreban for a spin.
I then cruised around taking pics.. This is Scott.
Everyone was having fun demo'ing boards and playing on these great little waves.
Zak came out on the 14' inflatable C4.
He didn't fall.. He just jumped in to cool off.
So many of these people were in the surf for their first time.
This little guy caught some great waves for his first time.
Surfing with the alian.
Check out that beautiful water.
Jean went from first time noobie to expert in no time at all.. The only waved she'd caught were down-winder runners.
This guy said that he had caught more waves today than in his whole surfing life.
Cam took a gaggle of girls out for their first surf session.
They were soon having so much fun.
Big wave Dave on his big Coreban.. and showing off his beautifull 12'6" Alpha Race.
Scott with his beautiful home made woodie.
Cam with his new little green DTM.
The kids were having a ball.. What a great day.
We surfed till late afternoon and with the sun getting lower Olive got his 14' Glide out for some fun in the sun.
We then headed over to the SupVic house for a barbie.. Good job Dave.
The next morning it was a mild overcast day with no wind at all and slightly bigger waves than the day before.. I put my camera away and hit the waves.
Sorry no pics other than this one at about 8am.
Back in the SupVic house back yard there was an interesting board.
Can you see it? .. We were thinking Starboard Proto with it's see through paint and it even had a sinken deck.
This is on my way home.. I stopped off at Eagle's Nest and thought about going out.. but I was too buggered from two great days surfing (I'm not used to it)
On the way home I also stopped off at the 'Giant Worm'.. and thought you'd like to see it.
Here's a few pics of the giant worm.. It's really big.

This event just happened to have all of the right ingredients and to be in the channel, paddling back out to the the break and cheering on a newbie pulling into one of their first ever waves, their face a picture of concentration and nailing the ride was what made it soooo much fun for me!
No aggro, no egos, just good old fashioned surf stoke.
Only in Vicco! [ or Tassie perhaps]
Thanks DJ for being the roaming photo journo and to all of my fellow SUP VIC committee members. It's a pleasure serving with you.
Great photos of the weekend DJ.. Looked like some perfect waves! I was bummed to miss it as we had a little girl born the week before and thought it best to stay at home and change nappies instead!!
Just read this on the Woogie Marsh blog. The 12'6 Alpha plain shape is basically a gun surfboard so she surfs waves unbelievably well for such a big board from ankle high waves to well over head. I suppose that says it well
I found the 12' 6'' pretty stiff to turn, although that could be the fin that was in place and placement of the back foot but after the bottom turn, the acceleration of the board with a few paddles was amazingly quick, I had to back off for fear of spearing a fellow supper.
