Will be there for a short period in July. Are there SUPS for hire on the island and are there waves anywhere. ( Smallish, smooth beginners waves!)

No waves there, but there would be some good paddles around the island.

Yeah you can hire them at the beach hire , they used to be hired untill you wore out so they are pretty good value. The boards are Mistral 11-2's I think , the paddles are absolute crap fiberglass heads with ali shafts very heavy.

You won't be allowed to leave the bay so , no waves but heaps of area to paddle at high tide. The currents in the channel are full on , you would have to be really experienced and fit to make it around the island.

There are now waves that break like a beach break but there are some insane tidal surge waves in the tight channels when the tide floods but again just for really experienced. Keep in mind they can have 20ft tides up there.

I was there last year, this exact time.
You can hire boards and paddles but only between a certain time, I think it was between 9am and 12pm depending on the day, at the main beach.
The boards were very very ordinary, not branded, and they had a few naish alloy paddles floating around.

But the views and marine life made it all worthwhile.

If you paddle out of Catseye Bay, turn right and proceed up to Surprise Rock, you will get a downwind surf if the wind is blowing and the tide is flowing in same direction.

Maybe get the water sports guys to drop you up there in the tinny.
