I hope these guys didn't catch all the sets.. ! Doesn't look like they had much respect for the other guys in the line up - some guys need to understand that just because we can catch more waves than surfers - doesn't mean we should....

Why they hate us? They were taking as much as they could.

I have the right to paddle where I want. Certain spots though will require a little adjustment.
If the crowd gets this thick, or for sure if they all form up inside of me, time to move on.

That's funny how you call it sharing...looked like the guy on the shorty gave it a nice smack to the lip and dickhead just ruined it for him....causing a bad situation all round

This footage would have been taken over a few hours . Therefore , good on them .
They're not dropping in , just enjoying the fact of being able to get on a wave early .

By people that dont know them, having lunch or something??? Listen closely to the dialogue, it seems as the filmers are not connected to them.

Yeah tough one. Majority of the waves they are in the clear but when I guys comes up on the inside then it's time to get out of there.
Shows how poor a wave Ulu's can be depending on tide, swell direction but still VERY busy!

The video doesn't show how the guys behave in between rides - if they are letting a few sets go every time, I'd say its all good. Another thing is that most of the waves ridden seem to be the wider ones, as there are heaps of shorties getting caught on pretty much every wave ridden by a SUP.

I agree With Pete. I've seen this vid before. Its clearly been edited to show only the waves that the Sups caught. We don't know how long they were out there waiting so we can't really judge them or say that they're giving SUPs a bad name. Yes there was a couple of drop ins in the vid but most of them the guy kicks out before its a real issue. & guess what?? SHORT BOARDERS DROP IN ON EACH OTHER ALL THE TIME!!! What stands out to me more than anything, is how many guys are paddling out straight through the break instead of paddling wide. To me thats the most inconsiderate thing a surfer can do. & one of those guys even gets run over. I don't wish that on anybody but if you're gonna paddle straight out through the break its gonna happen to you sooner or later.
Apart from that, its an enjoyable little vid.

I agree there are some waves in this video which were way too wide for the shortboarders to catch, but the majority of waves could have been caught by the surfers. The guys on the SUp's were getting in early and paddling for every wave. Sitting down, and letting the occasional wave go by is the key.. Two of the SUP guys are pretty cooky ~I would have been petrified if I was a shortboarder with that guy on the white SUP coming towards me.

SUP's are not welcome at Ulu's, maybe this was the tipping point.

When did that happen? Last year was fine. Going back in July so will see.

Guy on the red board goes alright. Nice air drop and cover up. Looked all good to me they were catching the left overs down the line.

Your only fuelling the fire by suggesting these guys are in the wrong, they maybe or as suggested this footage is of course filmed over a longer period than appears, so of course it's focused on the standies. How many prones have dropped in on another or run over someone, we don't know as it wasn't filmed (here).

Don't see the problem with what these guys were doing, only on one occasion was there a surfer on the inside of them and the guy pulled off immediately, and at no other time was a surfer paddling into any of the waves they caught, no surfers where in the right position. They could also handle their boards, I thought they did well..

Wanna be heros.

I bet they tried surfing it on a short board but couldn't hack it so they went out on their SUPs.

well i think thats a sh!t wave for ulu's standard and the perfect sup wave opportunity, if i was on a short board, i'd be waiting for the tide to drop or head elsewhere.
as for being wave hogs, god knows unless you were out there.

Despite the uncertainty about what happened the facts appear to be 1) at least three sups paddled out together and 2) one of them dropped in on a good surfer who then ran over someone either due to the sup being outside him or not and 3) at least 2 of the sups nearly ran a few people over by not being good enough to be out in a very crowded lineup ( red board ripped but still nearly collected a few kooks paddling through the zone).

All this has been filmed and posted and does sups no good. Doesn't matter what actually happened, all that matters is what it appears to show. Paddling out together simply antagonises other surfers who don't care how courteous you are, they just worry you'll be a pig like the last sup. Dropping in is just more conspicuous on a sup, and getting run over by a high volume board pushed by 4ft of whitewater puts the heebs up most people.

Put simply, it does us all no favours in the long run by three sups paddling out into such a crowded lineup, two of whom should not be out there at all.

Fully agree Rog... however when Ulus is fat and busy (or marginal) I've found it goes a long way in respect to the shortys, to first up take a few out back at the Bomb or even head up to Secrets... both awesome SUP waves, then hit the busy inside breaks hard on the way back!!! By then they all know you mean business and your more respected for not being a hog!
