Has anyone put a rig on a sup board? What did you use?(sail ,mast etc)How did it go?is it functional or a gimmick.

Id say its a sweet concept for windsurfing flat water but a total disappointment if you want to surf waves high performance style. Its a "one direction dimension"........

It's no gimmic..IMO..At the Mambo (Merimbula) last Nov there were heaps of guys out having a ball sailing their SUP's in the waves in next to no wind.

today i was out on the mistral pacifico, with a 5.3 superfreak, i was out at lancelin, and the waves where any where from boom hight to head hight, it was great fun, wave riding is awsome on them, i wouldnt say better than short board, but i wouldnt say worse just differnet, i was getting some strange looks by a couple of guys but i think they where just amazed to see a long board out at main break...

trust me its noo gimmick, it is very functional, i was plaining the entire time, and it capability of moves is great, i wrote a review on it in the windsurfing review section,

not trying to sound rude but ignor what scotty says, it brilliant, the turns are tight and the rush is the same as a short board, but a different feeling under feet, its almost as if you feel everything happen at the nose of the board before it really happens under your feet, really nice feeling, plus its is 1000 times easier to tack when you find a nice wave

Hi Waxer
I use the Mistral Pacifico on a 4.7 Supefreak all the time, super cool even in offshore condition. Superfreak Its a soft sail so does the job great, no harness, just moving quickly from one peek to the other. Getting plenty of waves all the time and lots of freedom in the ride. I'm using my wavesailing rig so skinny mast and boom.
Give it a go, its wort it.
Best wind&waves to all

Hey each to there own but depends what you call wave riding I guess. Some people like riding bikes up hills......... I am just saying if you are used to sailing in waves and like high performance wave riding, ya going to be pretty disappointed. If you happy to catch a wave and maybe fade up and down on the face then you will love it. If you want to do real snaps, areials or smacks, try a starboard aero 127 or 117. The are just as stable as a SUP in light or no wind but have a waveboard rocker and they are only 235cm long. I been windsurfing for 20 years now, mostly on waveboards so I rekon you could say I have been around a bit........
But hey if you like riding bikes up hills then I say go for it......

i see where your comming from, but its just different, being able to get out to the breaks wich are only nice in little wind and being able to sail them, but for basic wave riding, few turns etc its good,

Its the same deal as riding a mal or a short board same thing different smell. Some times i like cruising full waves on my 9' mal other days I like riddding pitching waves snapping turns on my 5'9", it really just depends on what the conditions throw at you and what mood your your in.

Ive sailed the bic sup and was very impressed, didnt use it in waves but I think it could be great fun in the right type of surf.
