OK....it was hard work out there, right?
As a local SUP paddler in Hervey Bay, it was fantastic to have so much company out there with 6 other SUPs in the water! Crowded!
One other gal (Sue S) and 5 guys (mainly from the Gold Coast I think) and we were all greeted on the beach at Torquay with a 15-20knot northerly.

Only option was to do the only downwind possible, which was from Pt Vernon across the bay in a NW to SE direction.
Google Earth confirmed it was just under 6km in a straight line, but not too many lines were straight out there because we had to tack with the wind and spent at least 50% of the time paddling very bouncy messy water ACROSS the wind.
Not too much fun and with the swell being stopped by Fraser Is and the great big sandbar the runs across the top of the bay, there was none of that rolling push running under you.
So....I was last in, in a time of 48 mins approx over a distance more likely to be 7-8km. I think first place was at least 7 minutes ahead of me.
PS Has anyone lost their cream coloured Honolua surf hat? I accidentally took it coz its the same colour as mine, so send me an email and I'll post it back.
Thanks for the company everyone and hopefully you'll come back next year.
