Here's a trade secret to get your deck grip off. Soak the whole board in Turps with an old towel over it , then wrap it in plastic (large wheelie bin liners) and tape it all up so the turps doesn't leak out . Let it rest for a few hours or overnight . Remove the plastic and the grip just slides off .If the glue is still stuck to the board repeat the process and it will rub off with clean rags....BIG WARNING if you have cracks in the deck don't do it as it will eat the foam.

How it works is the deck grip is porous and the Turps soak's through and breaks down the glue.

just remember mineral turps is sometimes used as a paint thinner/cleaner for some types of paint.

Id like to see some info on the resins used and there chemical resistance. That amount of turps for that amount of time, may or may not have some effect on the resin???

I first used it on a PSH that had a horrible pink marbled deck grip. I placed towels over the pad and then covered them with turps and got that black thick plastic and covered the towels. I left it overnight and could not believe how easy it peeled off.

There was a little bit of gummy glue residue but a plastic paint scrapper soon got it off.

Beats the hell out off a hot hairdryer and pulling deck pads off.

This technique is not new as it has been used by windsurfers/shops for many years.

I want to change the deck on my Starboard, but this technique would scare the crap out of me!

Any other tips before I am forced to melt my board?

Great info tip piros, I just used it to rip off the OAM grip off my starboard carbon 8'10 and it worked like a dream, I only needed to use a nylon scoured to lightly remove any residual glue from the deck, just waiting for it to dry now before putting the new grip on. cheers

I understand your hesitation, I can also testify to its value. It's much gooder than anything else you might try.
If your sceptical try a corner to see how it goes.
Also use nail polish remover for the final cleaning(acetone)

For the remaining glue, just do the same method. 15mn rest will suffice, the glue will peel in sheets (start with a credit card, pull the glue sheets by hand).
