Hi Guys,
Well I am the proud new owner of two new paddles , and have inherited them from a much taller owner.

One is an alloy Naish, very solidly glued into what looks like an alloy paddle blade. Just tried heating and twisting, did not budge ! Glue looks like super glue.

Second one is a carbon Select paddle (apparently $500 worth!) and this one has a section in the middle where a bigger tube slips over smaller carbon tube and is agin SOLIDLY glued.

Any suggestion or is it a job for a pro?
Cheers Jayne

The Naish alloy is an alloy shaft and fiberglass blade (I think)..They are pretty short so I can't imagine needing to cut it down unless you're a hobbit..

How much do you have to change them.. How much over your head height are they now?

Typically if you are going to resize a paddle you cut off the handle end to length and either get a new grip and glue it in or work at getting the old shaft off the grip and reuse. In most cases you wouldn't touch the blade end or the midpoint of the shaft.

Any pics?

They are way too long for me - 50cm taller than me, and need about 20 odd cm cut off.

The Naish alloy has a Welded cross T, so that ain't coming off. Only option is at the blade join... and its super glued!

The select has very very very strong glue, but it may be possible to cut down from below T and the modify the T and re glue. This is a beaut looking paddle. I can actually see why they are $500.

Tried heating up very hot and moving glue, NO GO.

The best thing to do with the Naish alloy paddle is to use a hack saw and cut the T grip off at the length that you need and replace it with a plastic T grip.

I'm 6'4" so I had to go the other way with mine and make it longer..and I made mine adjustable.

Here's a few pictures.

That TShirt is great!

Awesome, you guys are full of good ideas, saves me thinking!

I'll ring my local SUP shop and see if they have a T grip.

The best place to pick up a T grip is from a kayak/canoe shop.

Yes, canoe shop is the go said the SUP shop.

I have also sorted out the Select carbon paddle. I cut that below the T. Then it was a bit of a mission the get unwanted bit of carbon tube off the T-bung, but a bit of perseverence and its DONE!

Thanks alot you guys for your help.

Roll on 4pm - it's paddle time
