I didn't see anyone talking about this here. Dave K posted a new article on his blog that I think is just amazing. Full disclosure--I edit Dave's stuff for him, in that case it consisted of a few spelling and grammar changes.

Take a look and let me know what you think. I've been writing stuff for a long time and this just knocked my socks off. The whole article just has this, can't quite think of a term...heavy resonance. I've read it about thirty times and it's still gives me a deep down chill. These guys are NOT human.

Thanks Bill.. That is a good read..

btw.. Did you ever see Don King's movie called 'My Beautiful Son'.. I haven't seen it myself but just watching the trailer put a tear in my eye.

Tell Dave we miss him down-winder and to get his arse back here one day soon.. hint hint.. Merimbula in November.

I'm sure Dave would remember his time in Merimbula many moons ago.

Great article. Great closer.
(the article related to paddling from Oahu to Kauai'i, a distance of circa 120-125km)

To quote DK;

"Even if you can't get to that place where you paddle possessed, be possessed to get on the water as much as you can. Not only will it be good for you, it will be good for me if you're happier when I run into you some day.
Aloha,
Dave"

Intro was funny too;

"About four years ago, Laird and I had concocted a plan to Stand up paddle across all the major channels in Hawaii and ride our bikes across every island, in an effort to help support our friend Don King, who was making a documentary about raising a autistic child. He needed some money to finish the project and Laird and I needed something to occupy our comfortable summer with some type of pain and suffering. It seemed like a great idea at the time of inception but turned out to be way more than I bargained for, but that's par for the course when you run with a like minded, slightly skewed, well intended, but over zealous type like Laird (meant in the best way possible). In the end, it was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life."

Awesome story. What happened to Dave is a phenomenon I've read about in sport many times. Called "flow" and is a space where the conscious facts don't count. Caution is tossed aside and energy seems endless.

I've been there once in a serious way for a couple of hours in the water swimming hard. Unexplanable on my part.
