Things have slowed to a craw lately, this forum would roll like a poker machine. When a topic is created on cricket it got me thinking of the guy's who do not post any more.

I've been on the wagon for the past two months - which may explain why I've been a bit quiet. The conditions also haven't been that great so I haven't been out as much as I've liked. A couple of weeks in Hawaii will fix that - 5 more sleeps.

Still read and enjoy most of it though. This forum has always ebbed and flowed, maybe it's just going through one of those ebbs (is that the word?)

There really hasn't been too much new, that I can add. Sure there are always new boards coming out, new fin setups, new shapes and deck grip designs being posted along with the sexy girls, who ripped where, what board should I get, and the latest Laird story. But all of that, while good to look at and read just turns into a few pages of "yeah you rip", "she's hot", "very nice board", "buy a Naish" bla bla bla.

Hang in there someone soon will say something that will offend and fire it up again.

Here... this is how easy it is to fire up the forum again.

Lacy is a fu*^k head and doen't know what he's talking about. Always buying boards, modifying them, cutting them down, changing the fin setups, rabbiting on about shorter is greater, then years later changing his mind telling us "longer is greater" . What the f*^k have any of us learnt about sup from him in all the time he's been here?

disclaimer: I'm just trying to spark this forum up for mahaka (or whatever his fake hawaiian username is).

What have we learnt from lacy?

lol, how about this Oliver ,there are two gods, one the real one as we know and the other resides in Victoria DJ Because the sun shines out of his pimping arse[}:)]

Oh and I have to stick up for Lacey, yes your correct in the board count but at his expense he has done more than his share of R&D which I am sure many have benefited from.

I can't bag DJ, cause I've gotten to know him and his posts - remind me of the Leyland Brothers - and it's his photo documentaries that keep me coming back here day after day, year after year.

Pimp or no pimp - he is what I call a true beliver.

define R&D......to me R&D is a little more than gut feeling and emotinal return...ie i think its good/bad there fore it is....

25 years of manufacturing and R&D is the future,I worked on the old 20/80 theory.
80% of new designs failed but the 20% were big time winners.

R&D department takes creativity and during this process there are often some wild ideas and some are worth reviewing in a year or two.
Ask Bob mc,never throw away old templates.

The commercial side of it is maxing out for me for sure.

It was always going to happen. There are a plethora of production boards out there - who can make sense of it, and who want's to sense of it?

Years ago I went to Thailand and went to a supermarket to buy a toothbrush, there was only one toothbrush for sale - no problems.

Yesterday I went to bunnings to buy a hammer to fix my computer and there were 17 different hammers on the racks to choose from.

Easier to have no choice but probably better to have a choice. What's the question again?

The commercial side of it is maxing out for me for sure.

The numbers are maxing out and taking the small community feel out of it. Gone are the days when I could paddle 5-1kms along the coast and only see a couple other SUPs out. Would stop and have a chat how'd you get into it? what are you riding etc.

We are getting to the point where the smiles have gone and people are getting serious about it (slightly) and before we know it we wil all be a group of angry shortboarders not talking to anyone in the lineup.

I have had a bit of a think about your above post and I think that a fair degree of negativity has crept into the forum. I know myself that i feel the sport has slowed a little in that is isn't so new any more.
The research and developmeent posts I have enjoyed and those responsible for spending thier hard earned cash should be thanked.
There are a few forum members that come in here and bag others out relentlesly, no mater what others post. I have spent a bit of my time in other forums on other topics and most forums seem to go this way after a while, some forums recover and others are lost.
The crew with something of value to say just stop posting as they feel undervalued by the forum community. Those of us on the fringe stop posting as well as undesirable comments put us off and make posting seem pointless.
I enjoy the [pimping] product placement if you like, it to a large degree it is done by those with good intention and or sponsorship to encourage new paddlers.
To those that like to have a dummy spit and post without thinking thats awesome, I have had some real giggles reading them and even better the retractions the following mornings.
Those that are continually negative are bringing the community down, just as they do in real life.
Those that have stopped posting will return at some stage and be great contributers like thay once were.
It's a slow day at work, I should be at the Mambo!!!!!
To the Lost Seabreezers, don't stay away too long.

Agree... never throw anything away, always keep a record. Past ideas can often be realised once the technology has caught up... R&D keeps you fresh and open minded, never a day the same, best jobs

I couldn't have said it better. I can't get over the irony that one of the biggest offenders of the above mentioned negative comments started the thread.

Ha ha....no worries Makaha, I thought you might roast me - it's all just a bit of fun.

It's funny when you meet people from here in the flesh it totally changes your perspective on em. I have been lucky enough to meet heaps of the breeze crew and without exception everyone has been very nice.

It has been done to death but I think the GREEN THUMB/RED THUMB thing isnt helping. I would like to see more posts rather than just hitting the thumb button. Perhaps saying what you think might be better.
Yes still a slow day at work.

I'm guilty of that, I enjoy the DJ style photo threads, the videos etc, just don't always have a useful comment to add.

live and let live you bitches.

everyone sups for different reasons, some do it so they can drive a little black hairdresser's car to the beach, some do it so they can r00t around cutting and shutting boards into different shapes, some do it for flat day fun, some do it cos they couldn't be shagged driving to a beach with good surf and a crowd, some do it to scare the sh!t out of a few stingrays, some even think it's better than surfing. whatever your reason, then full respect to that reason and enjoy the water and your day.

anyone who feels the need to bag someone for their reasons to sup/surf/kite/sail is a fool and likewise, anyone who feels the need to post a drama queen style "goodbye" (like in another thread on here ........ wtf!) on a forum such as this is just as big a fool.

btw. dj, if you read this thread, those piccy threads of yours are awesome and capture the spirit, i'd almost trade in the old cruiser on a little black roller skate if it meant i scored weather and road trips like you have done this week

Lacy has always been a terrific contributor on this forum. Maybe I didn't learn that much from him but I did enjoy his posts and at least he was willing to share his enthusiasm. I can understand why he's decided to cut out from the forum though.

I guess its a public forum and you have to expect a certain number wanks are going to try sledging anything you say , and not everyone is going to agree with you.

Everyone enjoys a bit of good natured ribbing , far out its only a forum full of has beens wanna bees and never will bees.

I personally would like the thumb thingo to get the arse.

some more dogman vids would be good too , also some ironphil training updates and of course DJs excellent adventures.Oh and some Naish hate comments i liked those aswell.

one more thing id like to see all the haters to F### off , back to the short board forum.

agreed.

but some food for thought.....doing something for many years does not mean that that person really knows what they are doing or doing best practice....as in ALL aspects of life most popular practice is RARELY best....its just human nature...trying many things is great but to put weight into them without any science is frutile...
